No surprise there. Never really felt like we were in it.

I'm perfectly okay with that...show Boyd we are serious about him...I agree with Jwin's assesment...Boyd fits our needs and system best right now, whereas Newsome fits better at VT or PSU. GOt to feel bad for BC who will probably end up on the outside looking in on both of these kids...

Agreed. I like Boyd's upside a little more, and that's not meant as a slight to Newsome who I think could be a tremendous college QB. Though the meltdown, where he to commit to tOSU, it could cause amongst scUM fan's would be fun to watch.

I don't think him being a Hokie was much of a suprise! Beamer can snag a number of the VA guys, I don't understand the guy who had this kid going to PSU. PSU doesn't usually get guys that deep into VA.

Don't count on it...STILL confident. And FWIW MF has changed his stance on this issue.

I think Michigan fans are over Newsome. I know I am.

Great talent, but he seems like a bit, well, off. All I am gonna say, don't want to knock a kid in high school that I don't know or never met, but something just seems off about him.

He's a great talent though, that is for sure.

I'll think UM will be fine with Tate Forcier and Shavrodrick Beaver. I'll be cool with whomever just so long as Nick Sheridan never sees another down.

Newsome committed to Penn State. Don't have linkage yet though, the articles will be out soon.
Good get for the Big Ten

You think that may have something to do with the recent contract extension for JoePa?

I know he was high on them, but that could've played a huge part in it.

Penn State sources: Kevin Newsome doesn't make bowl trip | PennLive.com

Two sources close to the Penn State football program told The Patriot-News earlier today that reserve quarterback Kevin Newsome did not make the trip to Florida for Penn State's Jan. 1 Outback Bowl game with Florida in Tampa.

The news hardly qualifies as a surprise. Earlier this month, there were internet reports that Newsome, the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Matt McGloin and backup Rob Bolden, was unhappy with his role and considering a transfer.

Joe Paterno, asked about Newsome's status during the team's Outback Bowl Media Day earlier this month, admitted he was not sure if Newsome would return.

The sophomore dual-threat began spring practice as the favorite to replace Daryll Clark but eventually fell behind McGloin and Bolden, a true freshman, during August practice sessions.

Bolden won the job but was eventually replaced by McGloin, redshirt sophomore who is a former walk-on.

The Lions continue practice sessions in Clearwater, Fla at the Philadelphia Phillies' facility. Their first workout was Sunday and they will remain in Clearwater until Christmas Eve, when they head to Tampa.
