Video interview... Decide before season, top-7 by june, will include UNC, BC & Duke. Wants strong academics and pro-style offense which produces NFL talent.

All Virginia Tech, all the time...at least from what I have discussed with some on Scout.

With Terrelle Pryor headed to Ohio State, Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez is focused on landing a top quarterback recruit in the 2009 class. He appeared to have a good shot at Texas standout Russell Shepard, Rivals.com's No. 4 overall prospect, but he committed to LSU.

I was talking about Newsome with a VT buddy of mine last night and this was true...

What cracks me up, is now, the latest on Kevin says scUM, but if he thinks that Dick Rod is only going to offer 1 QB for 2009, he either delusional or being lied to. I guess correct me if I'm wrong, but TSUN will need 2 maybe 3 QBs in 2009 since they landed NONE in 2008...

I would be surprised as well if UM only took one QB this year...and I know they were very encouraged after he visited for a practice with his parents. Having said that, I would still be surprised if he didn't end up at VT...all they need is a little damage control.

The problem with Virginia Tech is they loooooooooooove them some Tyrod Taylor. And the idea of redshirting him is being tossed around - Sean Glennon is not such a bad QB, after all - and then they'd have Taylor as a redshirt sophomore and the offense would be all his. I feel good about our chances of landing Newsome. RR will almost certainly try to get 2 QBs in the class of '09, as he likes to have five on the roster. He'll have that come fall but obviously, the QB corps lacks depth.

"I'm open," Kevin Newsome said. "I'm still traveling and trying to see as many schools as I can. I'd like to commit in August, but it's not certain. I'd just like to be as focused as possible to win games during the season and I don't want recruiting to be a distraction." Newsome expects a difficult task in narrowing his favorites. He's focusing on academics and getting a fair chance to play.

Michigan is going after Eugene Smith pretty hard as well...maybe an indication that Newsome is likely to end up at VT like many have speculated.
UM is pretty confident at this point. I think it's more indicative of their QB depth than anything. Hanging the all important '09 season on just one recruit (plus Feagin & Threet) is a risky endevour, especially with the injury risks in this offense.

That and he committed to them Monday. Kid is big man, looks like a LB.
