Here is an interesting tidbit from the original source (the local newspaper, the Virginian Pilot) that the Detroit Free Press relied upon:

"I thought when he picked Michigan, he jumped the gun a little bit, and I was disappointed," Johnston said. "I told him that."

Johnston is not a big fan of Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez, who told Newsome he was "their guy" and then continued to recruit several other top quarterbacks. Michigan received a second QB commitment just days after Newsome's pledge.

I was semi-serious.. wasn't sure if Marcus got drafted or not, though.

(I had a joking tone, but Michael Vick was fairly successful when he was in the league)

I would have thought so too; however, apparently Lew Johnston didn't think so after Dick-Rod told Newsome he was "their guy".

No surprise here, there's been smoke for quite a while, and no matter how much they wanted to deny it, where there's smoke, there's often fire.

This has an impact on PSU too. They have been really wanting to land Forcier and with Newsome no longer a scUM verbal, they have to be the favorites now. PSU really needs a top QB in this class so you gotta think if Forcier does turn blue, they have to go after Newsome hard. For the record, I think he ends up a Hokie (Newsome that is).
