Game Thread #1 Ohio State vs. #8 Wisconsin, 2019 B1G Championship Game (Lucas Oil Stadium Dec 7 8:00 PM Fox)

Say what? Penn State went 16/28 for 128 yards 0 TDs and 1 INT passing the ball. They couldn't pass the ball at all against our defense.

Ahh. I didn't realize the total passing yardage was that low. LOL. It did seem like PSU had some success passing, but I guess not very much. At least their passing yardage was better than rushing.

I think Wiscy HC Paul Chryst told the whole story in just a few words at his press conference this week. Something to the effect of: This game is made up of individual matchups; You have to win your share of them.

You know what Chryst and the Badgers learned on 10/26? They learned that they are losing the individual matchups up and down the LOS. They learned that they are losing the individual matchups out wide on both sides of the ball. They learned that their only chance is to play a high risk/high reward game and hope they catch an overconfident Buckeye team. Which is to say they learned they have no chance at all. That’s why Lucas Oil is projected to be 97% Buckeye on Saturday night.

We learned that they will use the Wildcat.
We learned to watch out for the WR sweep.
We learned that they put pressure on JF
We learned to not let a punt get blocked because it cost us 7 pts.

Hopefully, we learned from these things, made adjustments, and that will lead to an even greater victory Saturday night.

Just watched the CCG Press Conference

99% of the questions were from Buckeye beat reporters. There were more questions from “junior reporters” (children) than from Badger beat reporters.

Do the Badgers even have press apart from the Madison newspaper?

Hopefully, the team hasn't spent this last week just reading their press clipping and shows up for the game "ready to play". The only way we lose is if we show up and just give a "lackluster" effort, think Iowa (2017) and Purdue (2018) here. Now both the Iowa and Purdue games were on the road, hopefully at Indy it will be like a home field with the crowd really getting into it.

Blowing them out would be great; however, I'm not greedy, I'll be happy if it is just a "W".

Here's my take

The first game was played in weather that benefits Sconsin. It took away our advantage in speed. It also hampered the passing game which is where I think we can exploit them more than last time.

I think the fast track will help our offense. I think the controlled environment will allow for us to take some shots. I think the bad weather games and Fields inexperience caused the coaches to be conservative.

I think they let it all hang out. I think we open it up and go for the throat.

I see a 49-17 or 56-21 type game

Yes, they do. The most well-known Badger reporter in Wisconsin is probably Jeff Potrykus from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He's been on the beat for a while now. Otherwise IMO the two best non-newspaper reporters are Zach Heilprin (Madison radio guy, but not outlandish) and Jesse Temple (The Athletic).

I don't know what the situation is like in Ohio, but Wisconsin newspapers have been hit quite hard with all the consolidation/Gannett stuff. And not surprisingly, the Packers really garner most of the press attention in the state.

Our overall record against Wisconsin is 60 wins -18 loses -5 ties
We have beaten Wisconsin the last seven games we have faced them (2011-2018). Five of those victories have been by 8 pts or less.
33-29
21-14
31-24
59-0
30-23
27-21
38-7

The 59-0 victory in 2014 helped lead us to the National Championship. This was one of the all-time best Ohio State teams. However, the 2018 team which one by 31 pts in a rain soaked game, may be the best Ohio State teams in its prestigious history.

We will know more tomorrow night.

GO BUCKS!

The 2017 B1G CCG will be on BTN at 7 pm ET tonight. I watched it earlier today, that game is a warning as to how tOSU can have trouble with Bucky - hand them 10 points on 2 first half turnovers, then not connect on a couple of open WRs for TDs early in the second half. That game should have been a relatively comfortable 20+ point win, and ended up needing a stop in the last 2 minutes to hold onto a 6-point win.

That should have been an ugly ass game. We all know Fields ain't missing open players like Jt did though.
