Scout$ - Grimes Hoping For A Buckeye Offer

4/30

Has offers from the likes of Louisville, Purdue, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Oregon and Texas Tech and is hearing from the big 3 in-state...has started talking with Coach Haynes of OSU and would be excited about an offer...also interested in Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma State, Miami, Florida and Florida State and recently visited Georgia.

Reading GVogt it shocks me Miami has not offered this kid...

Florida corner draws USC offer

By Phil Kornblut
USC has joined the offer parade for DB Tony Grimes (6-0 170) of Hollywood, FL. He also has offers from Michigan, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Oregon, Florida Atlantic, South Florida, Toledo and Ole Miss. Grimes also is getting interest from Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Georgia. Grimes said he's talked to USC recruiter Jeep Hunter once and plans to talk to him again. "We're just sort of getting to know each other," Grimes said. "Next time we talk we're going to discuss a lot of stuff." Grimes says USC is attractive to him. "It's in the SEC, the most competition in college football," he said. "Who wouldn't want to be in that heat." Grimes has never visited USC but plans to come in for camp this summer. He also plans to camp at Florida and Florida State. He attended junior day at Georgia. He does not have a favorite right now. Grimes is a cover corner but can also play safety. He also expects to play on offense this season. Last season he had 41 tackles, 5 interceptions and 15 passes broken up.

I personally like the kid. There is a lot of mixed reviews with him.

He did not have a great junior year so many think he is simply a camp warrior. They also say that he was too physical at many of these camps and much of his play would be penalties in a real game atmosphere

Personally, I think he has a great base to work with. Obviously there are flaws with his game because he does not have an offer from any of the florida schools (that is generally a red flag). With that said, I think under the right coaching he will be a very good pick up for someone.

:slappy: Florida schools only offer kids with no flaws?

Santionio Holmes didn't have a single offer from any of the "big three". Neither did Chimdi Chekwa.

what I meant by flaws is that he did not have a great junior year. Right now he is tearing up camps so a light switch may have come on and the florida schools could simply be waiting to see how it translates. Its an advantage for in state kids..OOS schools generally have to get on kids earlier than an in state school.

I was not trying to knock the kid. I said I like him and based on what I saw at the Miami combine I would gladly take him at UF.

However, Like I said..there are mixed reviews on his style. So I guess it is in the eye of the beholder.

I watched him completely shut down every WR he went up against at the Miami combine. These were absolute stud WR's like Ivan McCartney etc.

However, some of the people i were with were dogging grimes and saying that he is raping these wr's and would get penalized in a game for it. Personally, I did not see that...but the point is...there are mixed reviews on the kid.

either way, he has the physical ability to play corner. It is just a matter of whether it has clicked for him on the field yet. He was lost quite a bit his junior year. If he looks lost again his senior year he likely won't get offers from the florida schools...this does not mean he is a bad prospect. It could be a variety of reasons (schools may not want to go for a project at this point in time, may have filled their need, etc) This does not mean he is a bad prospect. As long as he shows the physical to play corner the right coaching will get him to play to his ability and be consistent with it. It is just up to the individual coaching staff if they feel they are willing to take the time necessary. Schools like Wake Forest thrive on kids like this.

however, if he goes and puts it together on the field...look out

 Yeah, I got what you were sayin', just givin' you a hard time, that's all.

I overheard the same stuff from some at the Tampa 7 on 7 concerning Merril Noel. He was up in every reciever, body and mind. I didn't agree with any of them tho. I watched Grimes up close during SFX's game against the Central Florida team. While I was more impressed with Joyner's performance during that game, Grimes most definitley has the build of a D1 football player.

It's become cliche here on BP to "trust the coaches". That being said, I trust JT and staff completely concerning DB offers. If they see something worth offering, I could care less who else he has offers from.

UM has offered, saying they are short on CBs () and will get at least one summer visit.

The article no longer includes the OSU portion claiming an offer, probably because there is not one.

That's odd. I read the article in the morning and it discusses his Ohio State offer, and now there's no mention of it. Oh well, I suppose Scout his just trying to make a liar out of me. :tongue2:
