'10 MI DE/TE William Gholston (Michigan State signee)

It looked pretty good once the DL started to mature. I don't think DE is a huge need at this point.

DE is always a need IMO.. Im confused about this recruitment.. I guess we didn't like what we saw when he came to camp months back. Im puzzled as to why we haven't offered. IMO, he's alot better than any DE we have in the state for 2010

I'm not sure we have much of a chance, despite the last name. Word is he might verbal to MSU after signing day...maybe the staff doesn't want to waste their time?

There are still 85 scholarships. Gibson and Williams look like the real deal plus you have Thomas, Wells, Fellows, Newsome, Turner(though maybe he plays OLB), and Moore. That's a nice young stable of DE's. I'm hoping for a Gholston offer but DE isn't a pressing need, IMO.

If you read the comments from William himself early in this thread you'll note that he obviously likes the Bucks, but he hasn't seen an offer so I'm sure at this point he's thrilled w/ MSU. I don't blame him.

The top 10 prospects in Michigan for the class of 2010 | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

1. William Gholston, Detroit Southeastern defensive end. With a last name like Gholston, the expectations are obviously high. William is the cousin of ex-Ohio State star and current New York Jets linebacker Vernon Gholston. He is the consensus No. 1 prospect in Michigan and has the scholarship offers to prove it. Michigan State, Michigan, Florida, Wisconsin are among the programs that have already offered and at 6-7 and 250 pounds, Gholston has the size that makes college coaches drool. His skill and work ethic to excel at the next level make him such a prized recruit. Gholston could play either offense or defense in college.

Rivals $

2/6

From the Wisconsin site...talks about how Wisconsin is recruiting both he and teammate Johnathon Hankins...plans to go to junior days at Michigan and Michigan State...would also like to attend Wisconsin's junior day.

Is this kid too tall? Could this be why OSU hasn't moved yet. If he's athletic enough it probably doesn't matter, but being too tall can work against you at some point.

I don't seem to recall many 6-7 dlinemen in college or the nfl that have a lot of success. Seems to fit more of an OT description.

could be wrong

Michigan really isn't a player for Gholston unless this thing drags out for quite some time.

Most up here in Michigan feel it is an MSU/OSU race and one of the SpartanMag editors was on the radio today saying that he wouldn't be shocked to see Will Gholston pull the trigger for MSU at one of our junior day functions in January/February.

As for your assumption that MSU is a feeder school for the PSL schools for years that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Most in the state feel Gholston is the #1 recruit in Michigan next year and hopefully the momentum Dantonio has created this recruiting year continues to roll into next year.

Whatever you say, boss.
