Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Army Analysis: National Combine standouts (free)

OT Skyler Schofner, 6-6/280, Washington Courthouse (Ohio) Senior

ASSETS: Has good height at 6-6 and is very mobile for his size.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to get stronger and work on flexibility in his knees.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE AT COMBINE: Really got my attention during testing when he shuttled a 4.78 on a slow and slippery surface.
CONCLUSION: Currently does not have any offers, but is receiving a ton of interest. Right now he is very raw, but he is definitely a D-I prospect.

From OhioVarsity...was disappointed in his performance at the NHSASC (benched 235 lbs 23 times)...picked up an offer from Kentucky and will visit soon...also hearing from Ohio State, Michigan and Maryland.

From someone in attendance there Skyler was very, very impressive... He ran a 5.2 laser-timed 40 on a slow track...

Wow...6-6+ athletic guys grow on trees in Ohio this year apparently. It's going to be tough to pass on whoever we don't take out of Shofner, Miller, Donnal, Rotheram, etc.

A question for WAD or GRAD. Being that Skyler has the strength, quickness, and speed to play on the d-line, as exemplfied by the info in the past several threads; what would the criteria be that would make a staff determine that Sky would only be an OL. Just curious as to why with his physical tools, if he has the right attitude, that no one is talking about him as a DT?

Depends on what they have seen of him in person and on film...in this example, I have not seen either on Skyler yet. It is my understanding he plays some DE for Johnstown Monroe.

On a side note (and this is not directed at you MONTbigBuck), I think some people are too quick to assume that a kid can just move or project to another position based on his measurables. For example, just because a kid is a dominant LB in high school and is 6-2 240, many people assume he can just bulk up and play DL. That is not always the case.

Back to Skyler...

There's film of Schofner on scoutingohio, although I'm not sure if it's free to everyone yet. His size and power are obvious, but the competition is so bad that it's kind of hard to get a read on just how good he is; he's literrally pushing over kids half his size.

He did play a little defense, but he's not athletic enough to play there at the next level. On offense, his feet are a little slow and he seems to give up on the play after he defeats the first blocker. I think he's a future guard, despite the height. Definitely needs to come to camp, but he's one to watch for sure.
