10 questions that need answered

bartender: "Correct the line, and I think we have the potential for a decent offense."

Um, lines aside, Henne's also got better recievers than OSU right now. You can say that Edwards and Holmes is a wash, but Avant and Breaston are both better than our next best reciever. And oh yeah, big one here: scUM's got a RB who ran for 121 yards against SDSU, 99 yards against Iowa, 79 yards in a blowout against IU, and 160 yards against Minny. Ohio State doesn't have that. Not even close.

"Sure sounds like scUM won in spite of Henne by that stat line doesnt it?"

How bout these stat lines?

Through his first five games, Zwick is 75-146 for 946 yards, with 5 TDs and 5 INTs. Through his first five games, Henne is 83-145 for 1,096, with 9 TDs and 5 INTs. Henne is slightly better, but he's not setting the world on fire.

And, oh yeah, Ohio State's leading rusher in Zwick's first five games gained 141, 90, 51, 32, and 48 yards, respectively. Lets get some perspective here.

"Chad Henne TSUN. Not only is he a TRUE Freshman, he is improving in every single game that he has played.
Sure Zwick is an underclassmen but he isnt a Freshman anymore, this is his 3rd year in the system. Exactly
how long should it take for a decent QB to be able to learn and run a system effectively? "

Although Zwick is a third-year guy, he still is essentially a freshman in game experience. Chad Henne didn't improved every single game either...he was booed his third game (against SDSU, at home) when we went 11-24 with 3 INTs, and that was after he shined against Notre Dame with a 25-40-1 for 240-yards game. He also was 12-24 for only 142 yards against a weak Miami (Oh) defense at home in the opener, so he's had two mediocre games. However, he has been hot the last three games.

Just looking for peoples opinions on these things

1. How come we never make any adjustments defensively? Other teams are able to adjust thier blocking schemes and routes to the way our defense plays in the first half, but we are never able to counter those adjustments.
I chalk that up to Mark Dantonio no longer being here. It wasn't that way until this season.

2. How can Tressel justify sitting Roy Hall because "lack of production", but at the same time remain solid behind starting Zwick and Ross and many other players who just seem to be doing the bare minimum to get by?
Maybe he sees something we don't, or knows more about his options than we do. Zwick: our other QBs are just as inexperienced. Ross: I don't see an Archie Griffin behind him, and yes that includes Pittman.

3. How come we can run a play I.E.(the statue of liberty play to Pittman) get a huge gain out of it, and then never even attempt to run it again?
Trick plays work because of the element of surprise. You can't keep running them and expect them to work. Any team worth its salt will stuff it the next time. This isn't Playstation.

4. With the same line of thinking for #3, How come we run many plays that just arent working, but we keep trying to plug away at them anyway, even though the other team pretty much has stopping them down pat?
Because you can't abandon the running game - again, this isn't Playstation. Do we run between the tackles more than I like? Yes. But I haven't seen our OL capable of moving well enough to pull (or pass block). They may be big, but they lack quickness, and it hampers everything we do.

5. How come other teams are able to win with youth and improve, but we arent able to?
This is too broad to be taken seriously. What teams? Florida? They've lost twice. LSU? They've lost twice.

6. In Tressel's 4 years here, we have not improved yet from the beginning of one season to the end. Even during the NC year we seemed to regress as the year went on. How come that is happening?
Last season, the Fiesta Bowl was the best game we played all year. Beating Miami for the NC was not the product of regression.

7. Why isnt JT willing to adapt his style of play, even after teams have started figuring ways to stop us, and exploit our strengths?
Two theories: One, his perception of our strengths may be different than yours. Two, successful coaches tend to be stubborn, at times.

8. Why are we allowed to have a great 1-AA coaching staff, but only an average 1A one?
The staff we have today is not the one he had at YSU. Some is, some isn't.

9. Why are people called whiners and bitches because they question JT's style and disagree with it? Is he not beyond reproach, especially since he doesnt seem to be able to make necessary changes?
He's not beyond reproach, but he has a proven track record - 5 national titles - so you'll have to accept the notion that not every poster takes your recommendations seriously. Some of us just don't believe message board blowhards know more about our team, and coaching, than Jim Tressel.

10. Lastly, Tressel said that he tailors his system to his players when he got hired, so exactly when is this tailoring going to be done? These are now HIS players, the ones that he hand selected to run his system and we just dont seem to be able to do it, so what gives?
We lost 14 players to the NFL draft after last season. Arguably, that was the greatest class in school history. We're playing a lot of highly recruited, yet inexperienced, players. To think this team would instantly be better than the last 2 was wishful thinking.

I'm afraid to post anything negative about Tressel or any other coach because any time I do I get called a Band Wagon fan.

I have probably seen more games in the Shoe than many on this board have years on this planet and I am definately a Buckeye thru and thru and I also think JT is a good coach, but when you can't express your opinion on what you think is wrong without being a Band Wagon fan then I think there is a PROBLEM.

Changes need to be made (OC for one) and Tressel is the man who makes the big bucks to see these changes are made. We haven't had a real good OL since
Bollman has been here ( and YES I do believe we have the talent). It's time for JT to get off his hands and do what has to be done before it's to late and we start chasing good high school OL away.

There now I'm a BAND WAGON FAN.

Overly Conversative for Zwick

HAs anyone notice that 75% of Zwicks passes are thrown to the sidelines? It seems ot me that the coaching staff is so afraid of him overthrowing receivers that they call plays to the outside so the passes end up in the stands and not in the DB's chest. The only passes down the middle are bombs in which he overthrows everyone, including our receivers who are two steps behind their backs. Will this change, or should it change? Will Pittman get more carries wince he had 4 carries for 48 yards last game, seems like good average to me.

Not sure why you are worried about expressing this opinion... It tends to be a relatively common one.

First- I'm not a Jim Bollman Fan... and... I'm sure at teh end of the seaon he'll be evaluated against whatever it is Tressel expects him to do.

I do however disagree with one part of your post... I don't necessarily get the "and YES I do believe we have the talent" part.

The real heresy in Buckeyeville is often making the insane accusation that we do not have talent... I think, though, that we have a combination of
(1) Inexperience -- which has lead to using our (2) less talented players which is exacerbated by (3) a lack of depth which isn't helped by what many see as (4) less than dynamic coaching. (Edit: I'm talking OL here, just in case its not clear)

I could go through each position and critique... but we merely need to look at the 2 deep to see that after Sims and Mangold, every player lacks either experience or pedigree, and sometimes both. That we ended up being obligated to have Kirk Barton blocking Erasmus James is... well... a problem. (Considering the circumstances I think Kirk did quite an admirable job). Then haeing said all that.. . I would rate Sims and Mangold as Quality Palyers but not dominating... At least not the kind of guys who are going to make up for Freshmen a and walkons around them.

Finally, as to scaring away quality O-Lineman as far as recruiting... I'll let the recruitniks field this... but it is my understanding that-- to quote the High Street Poet and Senator Kerry-- help is on the way.

Let me get this straight...you should be allowed to express your opinions without having to deal with the fact that some others will NOT agree with them? Why is what YOU want to say okay, but if anyone reacts negatively to it, it's a "PROBLEM"? That's BS.

You have the right to criticize Tressel, and others have the right to challenge your criticism, if they don't agree with it. Free speech cuts both ways.

Martinss01-In response to your response for #2

My gripe is that Roy Hall was passed on the depth chart by Ginn. Ginn to date on offense has done absolutely
nothing and Hall didnt deserve to drop all the way down to #4. The only thing I really think Zwick is getting
better at is not throwing Int's and like I said earlier he isnt nearly as aggressive or accurate now as he was
the first two games of the year because of his desire to cut down on mistakes.
ok, i can see your point to a degree. but lets be realistic here. we are talking about the 3rd receiver. both are true freshmen if im not mistaken. both are getting plenty of play time. does it really matter who the first backup is? hall has big size and reminds me alot of david boston. ginn is FAST!!! my god is that boy fast. i didn't realize how much speed he had until i saw him run back that punt. he reminds me of michael johnson the gold medalist from a while back. that is probably the reson for him getting the nod. they probably hoping he will mature with the postion.

are you related to this guy?

-"If Tress benches Ross, who is he putting in thats better"
exactly. pittman shows promise, but he lacks size and experience. besides, its not like he isn't getting any reps.

I think we need to send a bill to the O & D coordinators.. O-line coach too.. for the price of a ticket per game... because if all they're going to do is watch... they should pay for a ticket just like everybody else...
