OL Christian Westerman up to six offers

6/11

Written by Brandon Oliver

The trend of big time players coming out of the state of Arizona has been gaining momentum in the past few years. The class of 2010 has quite a few top tier prospects and the future looks to be even brighter. The class of 2011 has one of the top offensive line prospects in the country in Hamilton High School?s, Christian Westerman.

The uber talented Westerman is a 6?5?, 282 lb sophomore was a starter for the state champion Huskies this past season. He is currently attending the University of Texas? football camp and hopes to walk away with an offer. "I really like Mack Brown and Coach Mac, the OL coach is great too."

To this point, the star sophomore already had 6 offers but that list will multiply dramatically over the next year or so. "To date, both in state schools, Cal, Oregon State, Washington and Stanford have all extended offer to me. I would love to hear from some Big Ten and SEC schools. My mom's family is all over the south so they could see me play if I were to go down there for school. Auburn and Alabama are two schools I would like to hear from, along with Nebraska, Michigan and Ohio State."

From the Texas site...has offers from USC, Stanford, Washington, California, Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon State...looking for a good football tradition and a team that wins a lot of games.

I don't put too much credibility in the "Huskers" article. That article was posted on the ASU Rivals site and the ASU moderator who speaks to all the ASU recruits posted an e-mail from Christian's dad and the dad said the Husker's website took his words out of context and that Christian does not have a top 5 at this point.

This guy is a beast and will be a 5 star recruit. Of course I'm pulling for ASU, but I think they will need a fabulous season this year in order to have any chance at this guy.

Christian is supposedly pretty friendly with another AZ O-lineman by the name of Nick Rowland who is a senior this year and Nick's college location could have a small impact on where Christian ends up. Nick Rowland will probably be a high 4 star prospect and one of the best coming out of AZ this year. Nick's mom and step-dad are both ASU grads, and his top 3 are Cal, Stanford and ASU.

The offensive line is led by La'El Collins of Baton Rouge (La.) Redemptorist, Matthew Hegarty of Aztec, N.M., Cyrus Kouandjio of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha and Christian Westerman. The group easily represents some of the most heavily recruited players in the 2011 class, especially Westerman, who has been a household name in Arizona for the past two years.

Texas' Junior Day defies trend of early recruiting
Longhorns lock up 13 top juniors.

The Longhorns also received a visit from Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) star Christian Westerman. Westerman appears to be favoring Texas early on. He had also been very high on USC prior to the coaching change, but Texas appears to be the early leader.

If he does end up in Austin, there's a chance he could make an immediate impact, according to Hamilton head coach Steve Belles.

"Christian could've been playing college football his junior year," Belles said. "He can step in anywhere and play right now."

bama grad 65: what do you think our odds are in signing OL's Cook from Ark and Westerman from Ariz.
AndrewBone: The odds are in Alabama's favor on Brey Cook. Westerman has family ties in Alabama which can help. It's very early in the recruiting process.
