University of Florida football commit and Brooksville Nature Coast athlete Ja'Juan Story was arrested late Sunday night and charged with battery, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Story, 18, told The Gainesville Sun on Monday that he was trying to break up a fight that involved the mother of his brother's child and three other women.

"When I turned around, her and a woman and her two daughters was about to fight," Story said in a text message. "So I came over because there was knives and I took a box cutter from my brother's (girlfriend), but one of the other girls had two knives. I tried to tell her to leave but she wasn't listening."

Story said the women started fighting again and when he intervened, he "pushed" them away from each other and was cut on his knuckle.

"Someone said it looked like I hit the mom, but I didn't," he said. "When I finally broke it up and got the girl to leave someone called the police.

"I was just trying to break everything up since no one else was. I didn't do anything wrong. The only thing I did wrong was be there."

Julisa Walker, 19, was also arrested and charged with aggravated battery, according to police arrest records.

Because Story's case is still open, representatives from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office couldn't comment on the details of the incident or Story's arrest.

Story said he was issued a citation by the officers and has informed Florida's coaching staff of his arrest.

A quarterback at Nature Coast, Story is expected to play wide receiver at Florida.

Nature Coast head coach Mark Nash could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.

I forgot all about this kid. He was quite the specimen with some raw WR skills IIRC. Would love to have him here but at this point, haven't we sort of pursued other options? Are we still targeting receivers? I mean, I thought one of the main reasons we offered Devin Smith was because we whiffed here.

Well considering Posey's gone then it looks like he's more of a need now.

Link? (To quote the forum rules: Rumors and speculation should be clearly labeled as such.)

Well right now he is gone for the first 5 games and here is a link:

I don't have a "warm and fuzzy" feeling on the NCAA granting a reduction of the suspension on our appeal; however, I guess anything is possible.

Regardless (in my opinion) WR is a position of need.
