Now with Duke and North Carolina joining the long list of suitors, Davis' recruitment is about to turn from small-time show to three-ring circus. With the storied rivals from Tobacco Road joining the mix, Davis is going to be a popular player when the live evaluation period begins on July 6th. Coaches from all over the country will be traveling to see Davis play and many have offered a scholarship even though they have yet to see him play a live game.
"Duke and Carolina haven't offered yet, but they are waiting to see me play in July first before they offer me,? Davis said.
Syracuse, Louisville, Ohio State, Memphis and Kentucky are Davis' other current favorites and all of them have offered scholarships, while in-state programs like Illinois and DePaul are doing all they can to keep Davis interested in playing close to home. While the coaches are doing all they can to sway Davis, players from around Chicago are also lobbying him to join them at certain schools.
"Me and Sam (Thompson) are both looking at Ohio State. Me and Sam have been discussing it," Davis said. "Wayne (Blackshear) wants me to go down and visit Louisville with him so me and Wayne have been discussing it. Mike Shaw is not sure where he wants to go to school yet. It'd be good if we all went to the same school, but we'll see what happens."
Still, Davis is planning on making a decision that fits him, no matter where his friends decide to play.
"Location and academics are important," Davis said. ?I can't be far away from my family. No more than six hours away. The environment at the school, the facilities factor in. "Education plays a big part. Basketball is not going to be around (forever) so you have to have something to fall back on."
