Community Press - Falcons looking to improve defense for stretch run

While they allowed too many open shots and offensive rebounds for the coach's liking, they pulled together when it mattered most, using a stifling defense and clutch performances from forwards Chane Behanan and Darren Goodson to pull out a 69-63 overtime victory over Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference rival Western Hills Jan. 4 at Aiken.

In a mad scramble, Behanan grabbed his own rebound twice near the basket and finally tied the game at 56-56 with one second left in regulation to force the extra session. Aiken went on an 8-0 run and used key free throw shooting down the stretch to seal it.

Offensively, there have been two constants in the Aiken roster - Behanan and Goodson.

Behanan is a freshman phenom who gets better with every game. The lanky power forward leads the team in scoring (21 ppg) and rebounding (7 rpg) and is looked to, especially in a tight game. How he reacts in a state tournament setting remains to be seen, but he's shown the ability to handle pressure.

"It's no pressure on me. We play as a team and handle the pressure as a team," Behanan said.

...Keep tabs on Chane Behanan. He's a freshman forward at Aiken High School here in Cincinnati and is quickly becoming regarded as one of the top players in his class in the country. Already, area AAU teams are trying to secure shoe sponsorships (one had a conference call scheduled with Nike the other day) in order to land Behanon for the next several summers. In that case, Behanon's list of potential colleges (as it's formed over the next couple years) could depend significantly on which colleges have the best relationships with his AAU program, whichever program that may be.

Behanan will be attending the Indiana game today at tOSU.

Note: Rivals.com reporting an tOSU offer. Changing thread title.

[sarcasm]
It's about time that the staff start getting some commits from some '11 kids, slackers, Coach's back must be bothering him more than he lets on
[/sarcasm]

I had heard that there were to be numerous BBall prospects at the IU game, hopefully the Schott will be rockin (not unheard of) and the Buckeyes can play one of their better games and pull out a victory against Darth Sampson.

It will be interesting to see how Behanan grows and improves with age and with the competition of AAU ball. He is already putting up very nice numbers against good teams (Withrow and Dunbar) and players (Gates) and he's only a frosh :yow1:

Next Big Thing Dept.: Two to watch are Lakota West football linebacker Jordan Hicks (sophomore) and Aiken basketball forward Chane Behanan (freshman). Hicks has an offer from the University of Cincinnati football program and is hearing from SEC schools, a rarity for players in these parts. The 6-6 Behanan, averaging 20 points for the Aiken varsity, already has offers from UC, Xavier, Ohio State and West Virginia.
