'11 KY PF Chane Behanan (Louisville Verbal)

Thad Matta and an assistant were in the stands watching Chane Behanan as his Ohio Basketball Club came up short against Double Pump Elite. Playing below his usual standards, Behanan scored 13 points in the game.

After the game he said West Virginia, Ohio State, Louisville and Texas are recruiting him the hardest and have all offered. He is also hearing from Purdue and North Carolina.

Behanan, who is 6-foot-6, 235-pounds, is looking for a chance to play on the perimeter in college.

Las Vegas - day four recap

Bowling Green standout Chane Behanan had his best game of the weekend on Sunday morning when he helped the Ohio Basketball Club win in overtime. Behanan has been going hard at it since early June and looks a bit tired and worn down. His team is headed to Los Angeles after this event. He's still looking like a McDonald's All-American.

From what I have seen of him, he would be a 4 here at OSU. I don't see him being quick enough to guard on the perimeter, but the 4 here does do a lot offensively from the outside so I think that would fit his desire.

I read a headline yesterday to a premium article which titled "Behanan Wants to Play Outside" so maybe he is looking at the 3 position. We can always go back to playing a zone:)

Chane Behanan update

I watched Chane Behanan a bunch in Las Vegas and chatted with him several times after Ohio Basketball Club games in the adidas Super 64.

The 6-foot-6 Bowling Green High School standout didn't play as well as he has the rest of the spring and summer but he still drew a ton of interest. He's considered one of the top-25 prospects in the Class of 2011 nationally.

The favorite for Kentucky's Mr. Basketball next season has been one of the major stories of the recruiting circuit this spring and summer for his rise in status.

Behanan had originally said he would announce his decision on Feb. 24, the day his brother gets out of jail. But he told me over the weekend that could get pushed back into the April signing period depending on how many schools show interest.

Louisville, West Virginia and Ohio State have shown the most interest and have offered, while Texas, North Carolina and Purdue are also showing a ton of interest while he's also heard from Kentucky and Indiana recently. Roy Williams was seen during three Behanan games, while Rick Pitino has been to most of his games this summer and Rick Barnes was there for Sunday's game and Thad Matta for Monday, while Tom Crean was seen early in the event.

Behanan said he's "wide open" on his college decision.

Behanan visiting UK?

Chane+Behananvegas07101.jpg

It looks like Bowling Green High School standout Chane Behanan will be making an unofficial visit to the University of Kentucky on Wednesday.

"It's a good possibility," Behanan just said in a phone interview. "I have to call them in the morning to set everything up."

The 6-foot-8 Behanan, the frontrunner to win Mr. Basketball honors this winter, has not been offered a scholarship by UK but said "I think that's what they want to talk about."

Behanan, who has been offered by a bunch of schools, said he will make official visits to West Virginia and Texas. No firm dates have been set.

He said Louisville - which has offered - is still in the mix.

Bowling Green High School Head Coach D. G. Sherrill, said Behanan enjoyed his unofficial visit to Kentucky on Wednesday but declined to say whether the five-star power forward left Lexington with a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

"It was a good trip," Sherrill said Thursday afternoon. "I think he really enjoyed himself ... It was a quick trip, but one he definitely wanted to make.''

When asked whether Behanan received a UK offer, Sherrill said, "I don't know if I'm in a place to say whether he does or not. I think there is some mutual interest, I'll say that."

"He's real interested in going to a place where people really want him, and obviously Kentucky has a great history and since Coach Calipari has been there they've done nothing but bring in some of the best talent in the country," Sherrill said.

He added: "There's real interest on both sides."

Sherrill said Behanan's family plans to cut his list down to four to six schools, possibly by his birthday this third week of September and to spend the next couple weeks setting up in-home visits, then official visits. A final decision could come as late as February.

Sherrill declined to say which schools Behanan is favoring. "He's not really given me a final list, but he's holding somewhere in the neighborhood of 14 or 15 offers."

2011 power forward Chane Behanan, a Cincinnati native who moved to Bowling Green, Ky., last year, made an unofficial visit to Ohio State today, Rivals.com reported.

Behanan, 6 feet 6 and 230 pounds, was the top-rated recruit in his class when he was a freshman at Cincinnati Aiken and subsequently committed to Cincinnati. He rescinded that commitment last year when he moved to Kentucky.

He raised his stock again with a strong showing this summer, leading to an offer from Ohio State in July.

He visited Kentucky last week, and his high school coach told Rivals then that Behanan and his family planned to cut his list to no more than six schools by September and schedule in-home visits and official visits with those schools in the fall. Behanan is believed to be most interested in Kentucky, Ohio State, West Virginia and Louisville, not necessarily in that order.

Behanan visiting Louisville
Several internet reports tonight have Bowling Green High School standout Chane Behanan, a top-30 prospect nationally, making an unofficial visit to the University of Kentucky tomorrow.

The leading candidate for Kentucky's Mr. Basketball honors is scheduled to make a visit on Wednesday but he's not headed to Lexington.

Instead, he's supposed to be at the University of Louisville.

Word is Behanan will make the trek to Louisville on Wednesday afternoon and meet with U of L coach Rick Pitino and his staff and see the facilities on his unofficial visit.

Behanan took an unofficial to UK several weeks ago but still doesn't have an offer from the Wildcats. He visited Ohio State last weekend and is also considering West Virginia, Cincinnati and Indiana among other schools.

Chane reportedly got a UK offer today, on the same day he visited Louisville - coincidence? I think not. Clearly Calipari is doing his best to sabotage Pitino's efforts. I just wish recruits weren't foolish enough to think playing for Calipari = NBA stardom, as clearly there were a lot of players who went through his Memphis program that never got a sniff in the league (or in the case of Dajuan Wagner, got a sniff but couldn't stick), and it's really just been great "recruiting" on Calipari's part (for instance, Amar'e Stoudemire and Kendrick Perkins had committed to play for him at Memphis but never did because they went straight to the pros - in today's world, no doubt Calipari would get credit from recruits for putting those guys in the league even though they were able to do fine without him).

Behanan had 'great' visit to U of L

Chane+Behanan0510.jpg

Bowling Green High School star Chane Behanan made the afternoon trek to Louisville for an unofficial visit that his high school coach called "great."

D.G. Sherrill accompanied the 6-foot-8 Behanan to the U of L campus and said the Cardinals did "a great job of presenting their program to Chane."

Behanan talked with the staff, visited the YUM Center, played pickup with some of the current U of L players and also made a visit to the new downtown arena.

"He had a really great visit with Louisville," Sherrill said.

Just before leaving for the visit to U of L, Behanan received a call from the Kentucky staff and Sherrill said they "made a formal offer." He's also considering Ohio State, Cincinnati, Texas and North Carolina and has said he won't make a decision until the spring.

"He has a great selection of teams around him, Sherrill said. "Right now, he's really gathering information mode. But what I am proud of him is that he's really taken the recruiting by the reins himself and asking good questions and inquiring about things."

Does the Wiltjer commitment for UK mean no Chane Behanan?
Monday August 30, 2010

UK offered Behanan last week but I can't imagine Chane would go there now that they have three forwards in the class. I think he'll look elsewhere

Do you think Calipari offering Chane while en route to visit UofL was weak? Where does Chane end up?
Monday August 30, 2010

I think Chane will end up at Louisville or Ohio State. West Virginia still in there strong also
