Plumlee interested in Indiana
Marshall Plumlee, one of IU's top targets in the 2011 class, has several goals for this summer. There's one he doesn't have much control over -- to grow to 7-foot.
"I'm going to keep drinking my milk," said Plumlee, a native of Warsaw, Ind., who plays at Arden (N.C.) Christ School.
Plumlee said he was recently measured at 6-111/2. He said he has offers from Indiana, LSU, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Virginia. Duke, Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue are also recruiting him.
Plumlee's brothers, Miles and Mason, play at Duke. Marshall said that won't necessarily weigh into his decision. IU is definitely in the running.
"I'm definitely going to pay more attention and learn more about their program," he said. "It's exciting."

Rivals $ - Plumlee wide open in process

7/7

By Snow...talks about his standout performance at the Nike Hoops Jamboree...talks about the challenge of playing with coaches from Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Xavier and others sitting courtside...suprisingly hasn't heard much from Duke yet.

Have to think it's gonna be either Duke Or IU, Warsaw is a small town by Fort Wayne that is very pro IU.

With both of his older brothers at DUK, and his playing h.s. ball in NC instead of IN, I'd think DUK would be a good bet. He's probably downplaying them to garner some attention from other programs. In the end though, I wouldn't bet against DUK.

Youngest Plumlee picks up Duke offer
Andrew Pearson ? August 27, 2009

ARDEN ? Plenty of Plumlee could be coming Duke's way in 2011.

Christ School junior Marshall Plumlee is now the third of the basketball-playing brothers from Winona Lake, Ind., to receive a scholarship offer from the Blue Devils.

Plumlee's two older siblings, Mason and Miles, will already be in Durham this winter ? Miles is a sophomore and Mason, a McDonald's All-American, is ready to play his freshman season for Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

?(The offer) is a huge honor,? Marshall Plumlee said. ?Going to the same school as my brothers would be an attractive option, but there is also something to be said about going out on your own.?

Who else has made offers to the youngest Plumlee? Soon, brevity may be best achieved by asking who hasn't.

Florida, Georgia Tech, Indiana, LSU, Minnesota, N.C. State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue and Virginia are all potential stops for Plumlee, a 7-foot power forward who wasn't even named to his all-conference team (in the Carolinas Athletic Association) last season.

?The one common thing I've heard from every college coach is that Marshall has had a great summer,? Greenies coach David Gaines said.

?He has improved so much in two years, and these guys have obviously been watching him since his ninth-grade year. His skills have really started to flourish.?

Scout.com: Nike Skills Recap (free)

Marshall Plumlee, C - While many of the Amare Stoudemire's campers weren?t bringing the energy on the third and final day, Plumlee continued to work hard and tried to get others to follow suit. He ran hard in sprints, went even harder in drills and constantly gave others in his group encouragement. Marshall is the rare breed that constantly asks questions, begs for extra reps and wants to know what he is doing wrong. He'll be a coach's dream because he wants to get better and help others get better.

Marshall's older brother Mason (not his oldest bro, Miles) was IMO not handled very well by Coach K last season. Mason has a terrific game, and it seemed to me his PT was way too low given what he brings to the table.

If I were Marshall's parents I would think long and hard before allowing Marshall to go to Duke. (This from someone who is a secondary Duke hoop fan.)

Marshall Plumlee to enter U.S. Army

After he graduates from Duke, Marshall Plumlee will go from playing for Coach K to working for Uncle Sam.

Plumlee, a student in Duke's ROTC program, took part in a contracting ceremony prior to the Blue Devils' practice Friday, which served as his swearing-in to the U.S. Army. If the junior center completes his ROTC requirements by his graduation in spring 2016, he will then become an Army officer.

The team was in attendance for Friday's ceremony at Cameron Indoor Stadium, including head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who attended and played basketball at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Plumlee's teammates Quinn Cook and Amile Jefferson held the American flag as Plumlee was sworn in.

The 7-footer is currently in the midst of his third season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in nine minutes a game for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils

Plumlee is four inches taller than the maximum height (80 inches) allowed to join the Army, but according to the Duke Chronicle, he was granted a special waiver.

I do not know maybe it is just me but I do not understand what is such a big deal about him joining the Army after he graduates. There are plenty of students in ROTC programs across the United States that serve in the military after they graduate or they would not have joined ROTC. I do not know maybe it is because he plays basketball under Coach K which does not mean much to me when it comes to serving active military duty..

I guess my question is if you are interested in playing professional basketball why did he joined the ROTC program
Your question has nothing to do with the fact it's a big deal to pass up the riches of pro hoop (even Eurobasket pays pretty well) to serve one's nation in the military.

I think Plumlee's decision is one to celebrate, and I salute Duke and ESPN for doing so. Best wishes to the young man.
