'11 NJ OL/DL Angelo Mangiro (Penn State Signee)

Wow. When a kid visits during spring break in Ohio and not florida, you know it's serious.
This kid just strikes me as another Justin Boren. Now, I think Corey Linsley is in the same mold, but LG would be perfect for him. I would love to see an interior line class of:
LG Angelo Mangiro / C Brian Bobek / RG Aundrey Walker.

Jersey lineman drawing USC & Clemson interest

By Phil Kornblut
OL Angelo Mangiro (6-4 295) of Roxbury, NJ has early offers from Rutgers, Maryland, Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Pitt, Ohio State, Florida, Connecticut and Temple. USC and Clemson also are showing interest and offers from both may be coming. Mangiro said he's not going to any junior days but will take several visits this spring and summer. He will go to Ohio State during his spring break. Later in the spring he plans to visit Rutgers, Tennessee, Boston College, Maryland and Virginia. And this summer, when he's vacationing in Myrlte Beach, Mangiro plans to visit USC, Clemson, North Carolina and NC State. "After my visits this spring and summer I'll come up with a top five," Mangiro said. "I'll take my official visits and then decide before my senior season of basketball." Mangiro does not have any current favorites. He's a good run blocker and a good drive blocker. He benches 315 pounds and squats 450 pounds.

Love this kid's film...my only concern is where he ends up. Scout lists Mangiro, Bennett and Farris at OL...Rivals lists the first two as OL and Farris as a DL (not that any of that means anything). Farris seems more likely to end up at OT at this point than the other two. I understand the three-tiered approach to recruiting but when you look at the POWER recruits OSU has offered, I scratch my head just a little. Right now I like both Mangiro and Bennett on defense but I haven't seen enough film of both to say that for certain. Problem is both Mangiro and Bennett are listed around 6-3...which is short for a tackle. And not that there is anything wrong with recruiting a guard, but you know the old adage...you can recruit a tackle and move him to guard...you can't recruit a guard and move him to tackle. Maybe the idea is to bring in a DL haul of Miller, Hayes, Mangiro, Farris and Bennett. Bobek is another definite guard right now...which leaves Walker as one of the only tackles OSU has offered to my knowledge. Another reason I hope the staff is taking a long look at guys like Holts, Carrico and Springmann.

I think Mangiro's a G, Farris a DT/DE, and Bennett a DT first and foremost... But I think Farris and Bennett can always start on D and move over...

I think staff has identified an interior OL need right away and is addressing that... Walker is likely a G here too... But I think staff envisions Hall staying at OT, and likely Fragel ending up there too... So I think they're moving inside out and possibly looking to pick up a few OT "projects" in this class that have big upside and just need to fill out... Springmann fits that category.

I agree with this. Bennett and Farris are Dline recruits at this point. Bobek is a center, Mangiro and Walker are guards. We desperately need OTs in my opinion even if they think Hall can play at RT. LT is a huge need and I would like to see our staff make that their #1 priority at this point. And I don't just mean for "project" type LTs. There are some big time LTs available at the national level, and you would think playing time at Ohio State would be a huge selling point right now.

Hall did pretty well at RT for a true frosh.
Mewhort can play every position but LT.

RT is in good shape, but OSU could certainly use some help at LT for the 2011 season and beyond.

Rivals $ - Video: Angelo Mangiro takes the field
03/2/2010 by Rivals.com

All clips are of him playing OL & nearly every clip is run blocking... Once he gets his hands on his man, more often than not the guy either ends up on his back or on skates 10-15 yds down field... Nimble on the move, Mangiro is very adept at pulling & even scarier once he has a head of steam... There are several clips of him dominating kids his size & some even bigger... I'd still try him on D first...
