'11 OH ATH Shane Wynn (Indiana Signee)

I would disagree. He might be 5'7, and can't be more than 150 pounds. He's probably done growing height-wise, and how much can you pack on a 5'6/5'7 frame?

IMO, he's just too small. We don't recruit players of his size.

I was 5'7" when I graduated. Sprouted to 5'11" within a year and a half.

And guys of that size have a chip on their shoulder from people always underestimating them.

A considerable amount under the right conditions and training.

That said, he's still got 2 years of growning (at least) before he hits a college field.

Lets say he's 5'7 155lbs now; I'd fully expect this kid to be 5'9-5'10 170+ by his senior year, and thats more than healthy to get a look at from tOSU.

Especially these years. The longest growth cycle in a young man's life is about 14-17, with several smaller spurts until about 21. He has plenty of room and time for development.

The deal is that Wynn is EXPLOSIVE. He is likely not done growing and while height is certainly a concern, I still think he could warrant an offer for a slot/return type of guy. Brandon James or Trindon Holliday come to mid but make no mistake, Wynn has phenomenal hands. He had a jaw dropping catch against St. Iggy last year.

Jordan Hall?

Jordan is still a couple inches taller and 30 lbs heavier and he's about the bare minimum. If Shane gets to be about his size, he'll probably see an offer.

I remember all the clamoring for Cameron Saddler to get an offer. I don't see Tressel ever recruiting like Rodriguez or Urban Meyer. We'll never run a pure spread like them where size doesn't mean as much.

I agree with rb^, his playing abilites are impressive to say the least. Even IF he doesn't grow an inch past 5'7" his talent alone makes up for it. I'm not comparing his speed to any of these guys because he's still not even a junior, but there are and will be more players in the NFL at around 5'6". I'm glad the BN article gave a definative height, because all of the sites say 5'8" except rivals, which says 5'6".

For anyone who thinks he's too small to play, go check how big Darren Sproles was coming out of HS.

Anyways, with some young depth at RB, we can bring him in and let him return kicks right away.....he's a playmaker and he's a phenomenal return man....best from glenville IMO since Ginn as far as special teams abilities. That gets him game experience while letting him build into a bigger RB and learn the system while still getting a return on him. Size is NOT an issue with this kid, not at all.

5'6, 150lbs in January at the Army Combine.

Size is definitely an issue right now. You can find me a handful of exceptions such as Sproles and I can find you volumes of guys who did not make an impact. Shane has tremendous potential and skill, but the issue of finding a position and also an effective system has to come into his decision and the decision of the recruiting staff.

History is working for and against Shane Wynn...in his favor is the history with Glenville HS. Working against him is the history of tOSU's preference for bigger bodies in the defensive and offensive backfields.

10.6 100 meters is pretty good. Is'nt Lamar Joyner 5' 9" 180 pounds? SW still has some time to sprout. Speed still kills.

I have to disagree. Obviously you'd like him to be bigger, but the size issue is completely overblown for a player I feel translates as a special teams specialist (that's alot of special).

I'm not talking about him as a RB, but PR/KR, and as we've seen with Holliday, Sproles, Small, Harvin, etc., you don't need to be big, just fast. And as much as Tressel loves special teams and preaches field position, Wynn is a top of guy who fits that mold.

Bring him in as a returner, give him time to bulk up....and let's remember, the kid is what, 16? He was 5'6 and 150 6 months ago, and 18 months from now the kid could very easily be 5'9 and 180, or still 5'6 and 150....but either way, his speed and return skills will always be top notch and for a school that has lacked a strong return game the last couple years, we can use an upgrade.

Absolutely can see validity in both above posts.

My response is to Dog's statement of "Size is NOT an issue with this kid, not at all."

It is an issue. The question is whether it will be overcome by growth or talent that cannot be ignored or whether the staff passes on the concerns like those I listed. The comparison to Joyner is still a vast difference...5'6 150 does not compare with 5'9 and 180. One is extremely small and the other is built like a fireplug.

In no way am I saying Shane will not get an offer, but I am saying it is not a guarantee.

He will get an OSU offer IMO. I agree with Grad and Bigdog. I would hate to see him get hit by Big10 defenders on special teams weighing 160 lbs...IMO it would be unsafe. If he gains 20 lbs and weighs around 170-175 he will be fine.

Lets cross our fingers and pray he grows a little. The kid has special talent.

Just lookin at his picture, and I'm not a doctor or expert, but it looks like he's going to fill in more. His head looks like it could be bigger for his body, just an observation. I'm sure it's irrelevant.
