#11 Ohio State vs. #6 Iowa St., Friday, March 22, 9:50PM, TBS

Funny what happens when the refs let Kaleb play.

I don't think there's any doubt at this point that the Big Ten refs called Kaleb differently than refs outside the conference

It used to be the opposite. Big Ten refs would let them bang all season long, and then the B1G schools would get crucified by outside refs come tourney time.

The Big Ten refs used to let the big guys play as long as it's with other big guys. I remember a few times Sullinger getting tackled by littler guys, and they call fouls on Sullinger, or, at best, travelling on him.
But you're right - we get to the tournament and our big guys would have to tie an arm behind their backs if they wanted to play.

i really don't understand prohm's game plan. or any opposing coach's game plan in a must-win situation if they don't focus on one thing in the first half and at the start of the second half: going directly at kaleb whenever possible on offense.

even at the initial detriment to the rest of your offense, you must feed the ball inside to the guy kaleb is guarding and you must isolate him on the perimeter. as herbie would say, put kaleb in space. make him defend one-on-one. wear him out and foul him out. i'd accept a 10-point deficit through 10 minutes if it means getting kaleb his second foul. i'd accept a 5-point deficit through 5 minutes if it means getting kaleb his first foul. you must cut off the head of the ohio state snake. the rest of the team will die as a result.

so for prohm to state before the game that their focus on defense would be ohio state's guards? seriously? how can you be this stupid? i get that prohm mostly talking about focusing on osu's guards on offense, but it just goes to show that their priorities were all wrong. i just don't get it. how can you scout the second msu game, second northwestern game, and 35 minutes of the wisconsin game and not understand what should be the obvious game plan?

Shayok looks like an NBA player, and with his size, length and skill, there was no stopping him 1 on 1. I find it hard to believe there were 13 better defensive performances this season by OSU, considering the opposing talent.

And it was still the best defensive effort Iowa State had seen...

shayok was certainly the most nba-like player we've faced all season. sure, he's had 5 years (albeit 4 seasons) in college and this was his first year averaging double-digits, but the apparent gap between him and romeo langford was substantial. no matter what musa, andre, and the rest of the team threw at shayok, he was still able to do whatever he wanted. and he made it look very easy.
