Vertical:35 inches
GPA:3.2

He ran the fastest 200 meters in the country for his age group at the Phoenix Invitational April 5-6, where he blistered the track in 22.74 seconds.

A little more than a week later broke the Kyrene Middle School conference records in 100 meters (10.95), the 200 (22.02) and the 400 (52.02) erasing the 54.12 record he set a year earlier.

His 200-meter time is the best in the country this season for 15- and 16-year-old sprinters. His 100-meter time is the third best in the country and his 400 ranks him ninth in the nation, according to the National Elite Youth Ranking System.

Neal has obviously qualified to join the field in this season's U.S. Track and Field Junior Olympics in Omaha, Neb., but had decided to skip the event this year so he can concentrate on preparing to make the varsity football team at Chavez.

He also plans to attend some football camps at Ohio State University this summer and, "just be a kid," his father said.

In Ahwatukee Foothills, just down the street from Phoenix Desert Vista High's football field, is Athletes' Factory, where every day Davont? Neal is trained by his father Luke, who owns the fitness facility.
On the walls are pictures and laminated newspaper stories of the 14-year-old running the nation's fastest outdoor 200 meters (22.71 seconds) and indoor 60 meters (7.14) last spring for his age group. He has already run 100 meters in 10.95 seconds.
Between sets, Davont? looks up at a television monitor at a replay of a 1998 NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets. Jets receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who took a 9-year-old Davont? under his wing, heaves the ball into the crowd after scoring a touchdown

Arizona State football coach Dennis Erickson, at his school's passing tournament for high schools, made sure he accidentally bumped into Neal and said, "Hello."
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Southern California coach Pete Carroll already have Neal on their radar. The Neals are from Ohio. Luke, 39, who a had a brief NFL fling, went to Dorsey High in Los Angeles with Keyshawn Johnson.

Freshman phenom?

Love seeing the connections here. They're originally from Ohio, his father went to Dorsey (tOSU alumni from there include Na'il Diggs & Mark Johnson), Tressel is in on him early, and he's coming to camp here.

'Tis a nice start!

Yes, should be an interesting recruiting battle between the Bucks and the Trojans here. You gotta figure those are the two, even if there is so much time left. Sounds like he's a Teddy Ginn-type...excellent athlete who grew up with football all around him, not a track star who people would want to convert to a player.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - National Notebook: Freshman phenom

Brief (and free) article about Neal. Already has offers from Boston College and Arizona State. And if the film posted is any indication, he's going to be a HUGE recruit in a couple years.

Hope he makes it out to camp this summer.
I imagine we will be hearing from our Arizona State fan about this kid in the very near future:)

[reagdog]Don't count out ASU! All of these kids want to stay close to home![reagdog]

OSUsushichic covered it. Darn right the home town school better lock him up early!! I mentioned this kid in the official Arizona State thread here yesterday or Sunday.

P.S. OSUsushichic - feel free to reply to anything as if you were me, then just let me know so I can make sure it sounds like me. Then you can save me some time and effort. I should just give you my username and password?
