HE IS NOT COMING TO OHIO STATE! /thread

Well, no. It's hard not to speculate/wonder what happened to Neal when a week before signing day UFM seemed hot after his trail. I'm going to do my best not to do that, but just tossing him aside because he isn't coming here seems childish at this point. Where is he going then? Zona, U$C? This story is intriguing because we may face him in a Rose Bowl at some point and I don't doubt ESPiN doing an article on this before the game.

I wish Davonte all the luck in the world.... except when he faces tOSU.

Yes, I know this.... but its well within a days drive... :) the statement was meant to be over the top and outlandish

So um, Roswell is 10 hours from Pheonix and 10 hours from Austin, so I guess Austin has as much claim to Roswell as Pheonix. Tuscaloosa is 10 hours from Columbus OH so I guess they get to claim the Crimson Tide as Ohio's other BCS team. I think I'll go with "dem western states sure are big" and shy away from 10 hrs of hard driving being "well within a days drive".

Not to stir anything up but, anybody think there is a chance we still land both Diggs and Neal? Neal is told to wait so his commitment doesn't fill up the class and in the meantime, Urb releases Berry from scholarship and now has room to take Diggs and Neal?

I don't want to give up on this scenario quite yet.
Neal is still a possibility, but only as a package deal with Joe Barksdale.

Let's just put it this way - Dennis Erickson stopped recruiting him (not because Davonte had no interest in ASU). The new head coach at ASU Todd Graham stopped recruiting him (Luke Neal made unreasonable requests about coaching hires if Davonte were to commit). Utah doesn't want him. From everything I hear, Davonte is a good kid, however you need to look at the person running his recruiting... Luke Neal is running a 3 ring circus and it will be interesting to see which college will actuallly take him - - and his dad. UofA probably will take him though because if they run their football program anything like their basketball program, Luke Neal will get what he wants. tOSU is better without the baggage of Davonte's committment.

If this is true, thank you for the explanation. I haven't been fretting over why, but every time I see this thread, I've been trying to figure this out.

By the time this kid is in a position to produce I doubt espn would even care or remember that we were recruiting him. Recruiting lasts until the kids get on campus. After that stories about recruitment are rarely mentioned. Teddy Bridgewater from Miami northwestern was almost a lock to Miami, as that is their pipeline school. He went to Louisville, had a good year and no one even mentions Miami. Or even that his teammate dominic brown almost committed to osu over Louisville.

Eh, recruiting is a soap opera. I don't doubt that getting snubbed by a team will provide added motivation, but whether he chooses to voice that is up to him. I'm just stating my current view on ESPiN, which is: they are the devil, and will do anything to conjure a story.

State's No. 1 recruit set to announce decision
By ZACK ROSENBLATT
Published February 6, 2012

Top 2012 wide receiver/defensive back recruit Davonte Neal will announce where he intends to go to college on Feb. 21, his father told AZCentral.com.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native is rated a five-star prospect, is the No. 8 overall recruit in the 2012 ESPNU 150 and comes in as the No. 1 ranked athlete in the class of 2012. According to 247Sports Network, Neal has eliminated Oklahoma ? the new home of former UA coaches Mike Stoops and Tim Kish ? and Ohio State from contention, leaving Arizona as one of four finalists. Neal has already taken official visits to Notre Dame, Arkansas and North Carolina, so expect those schools to be the other three finalists.

His father said he might drive his son to the UA on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

There's a video of Coach Meyer speaking at the coaching clinic, where we're assuming he made a reference to passing on Neal. The video was already posted by somebody else in Coach Meyer's thread, and I'm not cross-posting it here because it does contain some (quite funny) profanity. The relevant portion starts around the 15:50 mark. It's quite clear from watching this that the "last step was out-of-bounds" thing was not being used metaphorically at all. Coach Meyer wants players who will show toughness and take on opponents, and apparently he didn't see that in the player he was referring to.
