12 bold HS hoops predictions for 2012
January, 3, 2012
By Jason Jordan and Ronnie Flores

From Mitch McGary picking Michigan over Duke to Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) winning a double-overtime thriller over Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) at the ESPNHS National High School Invitational, 2011 had lots of memorable moments.

Our guess is that 2012 won?t be any different.

Here are 12 bold predictions for the new year.

Kelly Kline/ESPNHSWe predict that Tony Parker will be anchoring the paint for the Buckeyes come November.

2. Tony Parker will pick Ohio State. Parker, a senior forward at Miller Grove (Lithonia, Ga.) who is ranked No. 31 in the ESPNU 100, won?t be able to resist the draw of becoming the next Jared Sullinger and opt for the Buckeyes over Duke, Memphis, Kansas and UCLA.

Georgia Tech and UGA haven?t given up recruiting 5-star from Atlanta
January 6, 2012, by Michael Carvell

Tony Parker, who is one of the nation?s top uncommitted basketball prospects, will likely wait until after the season to make his college decision.

The 6-foot-9, 270-pound power forward from Miller Grove High School has Duke and Ohio State as his rumored frontrunners, with UCLA, Memphis and Georgetown in his top five. Georgia Tech, UGA and Kansas are also still heavily recruiting Parker.

Miller Grove (6-4), the three-time defending Class AAAA state champion, plays against the country?s No. 1-ranked team, Simeon of Chicago, at 8 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.

?More than likely, Tony will wait until after the season to decide,? Miller Grove coach Sharman White told the AJC. ?He wants to make sure his focus is where it needs to be, and that?s on his senior season. He doesn?t want recruiting to be a distraction for the team and his teammates.?

Parker said he wasn?t ready to sign in the November early period but hinted that he may commit during the middle of this season. Now that appears unlikely. The late signing period begins in April, giving Parker plenty of time to examine his finalists after the completion of his senior season.

Parker, who is averaging 19 points and 13 rounds, has made unofficial visits to both Georgia Tech and UGA.

What?s the latest with Georgia Tech? Yellow Jackets coach Brian Gregory attended Miller Grove?s game against Oak Hill. ?I don?t think Georgia Tech has written Tony off,? White said. ?Coach Gregory was at that game with Oak Hill. I didn?t get a chance to speak with him but I don?t know who else he could?ve been there to watch. All of the Oak Hill guys have signed. I know Coach Gregory is a big fan of Tony.?

Scout$--Parker updates his recruitment

Kentucky has entered the mix but UCLA, tOSU, and Duke remain in front. Tony is not in any hurry to decide.

With Kentucky now entering the mix is anyone else feeling a little uneasy about Parker's recruitment? If we miss on him could we be looking at no prospects coming in for the 2012 class?

I guess you are scared of Kentucky also:wink: I don't have any inside info but we have been involved with Parker for quite some time from what I have read and he does mention us frequently. I don't know where UCLA came from but it may be that he wants to take a trip out west.

I think we are still involved with Amile Jefferson but he is a totally different player than Parker and I am not sure what our chances are with him. He might want to stay closer to home.

One of the big guns:bow: might be able to answer your question a little better than what I have provided.

Lol not scared just trying to get a feel for how this one will play out. I guess my feeling is that if someone new enters the picture this late in the game then maybe Tony isnt as close to a decision as previously thought.

They offered him. It's not like he initiated the contact that we know of.

I live in Springfield, MO. Just got home from the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions. Ran in to Tony Parker tonight as my son was running around getting autographs from the top players. I am wearing my longsleeve Ohio State shirt and he says to me "Nice shirt" to which I reply "Oh, yeah. Do you like it there?" and he says "Yeah, I like them a lot." So take that for what it's worth. As a side note, we ran into Dorial Green Beckham. We have seen him a lot being a local kid. He was with a dude all decked out in Texas gear. Looked like a recruiter of some sort.

Go Bucks.

So the "Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions" is not a fishing tournament, but rather a basketball tournament.

Cool, but confusing.
