Tony Parker (Frayles de Guasave)

UConn now on Tony Parker's list

Add defending national champ UConn to the list of school vying for the services of elite 2012 prospect Tony Parker, a 6-foot-9, 270-pound center from Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, Ga.

?[Huskies coach Jim] Calhoun called me recently,? Parker told CBSSports.com. ?I?ll sit down with my dad. They?re one of his favorite schools.?

Parker, one of the top uncommitted players left in the class of 2012, also is considering Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Ohio State and Memphis. Kansas has shown interest as well.

?It?s getting closer, it?s starting to get hectic,? Parker said of his decision, which he plans to make in the spring. ?But I don?t really feel any pressure.?

Parkier is Rivals.com's No. 33 overall rated player.

He says Kentucky recently has shown increased interest in him. Alex Poythress, Parker?s friend and AAU teammate, already has commited to John Calipari's squad.

?Their interest is good,? Parker told the website. ?I get the Kentucky calls everyday from [Poythress], making sure I?m watching the game. It?s a great place.?

Parker also was positive about Ohio State, a program that has been recruiting him longer than many of the other programs.

?They?re a great program,? he said. ?They do a lot with their bigs, which really works in my favor. They really recruit good around their bigs. I have a deep relationship with the coaching staff.?

Hoophall Classic Recruiting Update: Tony Parker, Miller Grove
Published: Monday, January 16, 2012
Sam Dostaler By Sam Dostaler

With Duke coach Mike Kryczewski and Kentucky's John Calipari in attendance, Tony Parker, the 33rd ranked recruit in the nation according to Rivals.com in the class of 2012, did little to impress anybody in attendance let alone a legendary coach.

Parker a 6-foot-9, 250-pound senior from Miller Grove (GA) High School finished with an unimpressive line of six points and three rebounds in the first game of Day 5 at the 2012 Hoophall Classic.

Parker, who is considering Duke, UConn, UCLA, Kansas, Ohio State and Georgetown, among other,s struggled throughout as Bobby Hurley?s St. Anthony?s team swarmed him on the offensive end, often times sending triple teams.

However, despite his subpar performance Parker is still one of the most highly regarded undeclared seniors in the country and has set the time table for sometime in the spring as when he will make his decision.

After the game, Parker discussed the recruiting process saying, ?It?s pretty cool and I don?t really let it affect me too much. It?s not too much pressure and when the coaches call you to talk to it?s kind of cool to talk to them.?

I have watched this kid a few times on TV now and finally got to see him over the weekend in Springfield and I am hoping and praying he picks us as I can see him stepping in for Sully. This is another interview from over the weekend I found where Tony talks recrutiing but this one he mentions the schools including us. I think we have a great chance with this kid.

Per LitlBuck's request, the national guy I speak with says that Tony is high on tOSU and Memphis, his mother likes Duke, but his father is VERY high on UCLA and pushing for them... UCLA also has a former AAU coach of his, which is a relationship not to be overlooked. Not sure how this one ends up and who wins the tug of war but UCLA seems to be the (at least temporary) odds on favorite.

The thing about UCLA is that I'm starting to wonder is how long Howland and crew will be around. They seem to be mired in mediocrity and I can't imagine that will be allowed for long at a place with that type of history.

There are other things drawing recruits to UCLA right now... Ghosts from Wooden's past, if you catch my drift.

Thanks for the info. Just what I wanted to hear:(

I can't believe that Sam Gilbert is still alive or maybe someone from the Gilbert family has taken over the monkey business.
