'13 CA OL Cameron Hunt (Oregon Signee)

Hunt is somewhat of a Lisle-clone to me...just need to add him for depth at RT/athletic guard.

Possibly but sometimes these guys surprise you. I don't think many people thought of Mewhort as a potential LT when he was being recruited. I also remember many people thinking that Jake Long was more suited to play RT in the NFL.

actually...

thanks for replying for me, but it does actually mean something. It means that the OL recruiting this year was not where it should be. It also means that I am starting to think that whoever is recruiting these kids is not doing well. Urban said on one of his talks with the Ohio coaches that he holds his coaches up to a high standard of performance and that includes recruiting. Either someone is not meeting the standard, or their approach is not working in this region, or they just didn't stress it hard enough this year because they didn't think it was that urgent. If that is the case, why would you bring in propects at all then. I don't have the answers but I am worried about our OL receruiting. The SEC wins with big boys on both lines, and I don't want us to fall behind on one side if you're going to compete with those guys. They will eat us for lunch, just like Florida did to us in 2006. Let's see how 2014 goes. They already have one good guy.

i don't mean to sound mean, and i don't want to derail this thread, but this is just dumb. Warriner is the OL coach. he basically delivered Decker to OSU last year. this year's OL recruiting was a bit rough, but they did land a very good OT and a good guard, and it's probably a strong likelihood that one of price or munger switches to OG. They already have one good one, soon to be two in the fold for 2014, and are sitting pretty with quite a few national kids. there is nothing that warrants your position one bit.

The OL recruiting has been a bit unusual this year. It seemed like coming into the '13 class, we were in on some top shelf guys who all went elsewhere pretty early on in the process. Then we never really seemed to put any other offers out there. Compare that to just about any other position, where as soon as we realized one guy wasn't coming here, the next two guys down the list had offers. Hopefully that's a sign that the staff is pretty comfortable with the options available to us.

Not to further derail the thread, but Warriner did a great job closing out the 2012 class. His prior relationship with Decker was a big help.

2013 has definitely been a struggle. I would argue that a big part of that is due to the fact that OSU got such a late start. This staff was behind the eight ball because most of the top 2013 OL in the midwest already had built strong relationships with other staffs and committed early. Even a guy like Skipper who opened things back up ended up in Arkansas where the OL coach he originally committed to and with whom he had a well established relationship was just hired.

You can see this in relation to 2014 OL recruiting as the staff has already built strong relationships with many guys over the course of last summer and throughout their junior years. They aren't playing catch up or trying to build relationships on the fly. I highly doubt 2014 OL recruiting will be a struggle and it could end up a banner class.

Getting back on topic to Hunt, our staff unfortunately had a lot of ground to make up and is stuck trying to build a relationship quickly. I suspect that will be tough for them to do and that he ends up at Oregon.

Not surprising really. So, only shot now to land an O Line player is for one to totally drop from the sky but even a favorable depth chart and Urbs super powers aren't likely to have an impact on a flip this late in the game.

Switch munger or price and call it a day. Well be fine. Best of luck to hunt
