Ohio State just offered 2013 forward Chris Walker of the Florida Rams.

http://twitter.com/#!/TheRecruitScoop/status/83250758585303041
Strengths:
The long thin combo-forward displayed a nice skill level and athleticism. Walker is more of a small forward who can step away from the basket or score facing the goal. His handle is good enough to drive the ball from the high post to make a play at the rim. If he catches the ball on the block he becomes a face-up guy who likes the turn-around jump shot over his defender. Walker does a great job of running the floor in transition and has the ability to finish at the rim in traffic.

Weaknesses:
As usual with a player this age Walker needs to continue to mature physically. He needs to add several pounds to his slim frame while living in the weight room. Once he gets some strength to his frame he needs to develop a back to the basket game which will allow him to set up his face-up game. His activity is good around the goal, but he often gets pushed around and off his base. Also, Walker needs to work on the fundamentals and consistency of his jump shot as it know comes out of his hands flat with little arc. With a few tweaks he could become a good shooter from the perimeter which would make him a tougher match-up.

Bottom Line:
Walker is very talented with tremendous upside. He has room to improve as an elite player, but has the physical gifts to get there. He has the potential to be a defensive stopper as his length creates problems for opponents. With continued progress to his game Walker should become one of the more sought after small forwards in this class.

Thanks to class of 2013 power forward Chris Walker (Watch List) for doing the interview with us. He talked to us about his favorite schools, his favorite coaching staff and much more in our in-depth conversation. In case you missed it, check out our lengthy recruiting update on Walker in which he talks more about possibly teaming up with class of 2013 center Nerlens Noel (Watch List) among other things.

What is your list of schools?

My list of schools is Kentucky, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Kansas, Alabama, Syracuse and Baylor. They all have good coaching staffs and most of them sends guys to the pros.

Do any of those schools stand out?

Kentucky, Florida and Syracuse. I just like them the most, they just standout to me.

Which school called you first and does that mean something to you?

When Baylor head coach Scott Drew talked to me first at midnight [when coaches could start calling], I was just like, dang, coach Drew called me first and other coaches didn?t? It made me put them in my list of schools.

Who else called you on that first day?

Baylor, Florida, Ohio State, Syracuse, Kansas, Memphis, Tennessee, Alabama, N.C. State, Auburn and a lot more. Oh yeah, I?d also put Texas in my top schools. I?d make it a top five and put Texas in there with Kansas, Syracuse, Florida and Kentucky,

What schools do you want to visit?

I?m going to Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State.

Chris Walker Says Ohio State is Favorite

NEW YORK — It’s not hard to imagine several of the players in Saturday’s Franchise Classic playing professionally down the road. Kyle Anderson, Archie Goodwin and Shaq Goodwin are all potential pros.

But of all the players in the game, perhaps none has more pro potential than 6-foot-9 Chris Walker.

Although Walker has to continue to develop his shot and his face-up game, his physicality, athleticism and ability to score near the basket are virtually unmatched at the high school level.

The 2013 star from Bonifay (Fla.) Holmes County is still mulling his college options, but says he plans to visit several powerhouses unofficially in the coming weeks.

“Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State and Florida, for right now,” he told SNY.tv early Sunday morning after scoring 18 points in Team USA’s 146-138 loss to Team New York at the South Bronx Job Corps. “Probably Kansas also.”

Still, Walker listed one school as his “favorite.”

“I’d say Ohio State is my favorite right now,” he said. “I like Ohio State a lot."

It pains my Gator heart to say this, but Matta has to be one of the best recruiters in the business right now. And Billy D is no slouch.....but Matta's recent string of gets and "almost gets" is as impressive as anything I've seen in a long time. You are at the point where success breeds success. An engaging coach is one thing. An engaging coach at a program that is always at the top of its conference (and a player at Dance time) - and you have a recruiting combination that will make y'all very happy for years to come.

I don't know how long his contract is for, but sign that boy up again and give him more $$$.

Holmes County (FL) star Chris Walker is a top 10 player in the class of 2013. The 6’9 power forward has three schools standing out to him at this point–Florida, Kentucky and Ohio State.

“That’s the three I’m really feeling right now,” Walker said of the Gators, Wildcats and Buckeyes.

Memphis, Baylor, Connecticut, Florida State, Syracuse and Kansas were the other schools Walker listed as those he is considering.

Walker said he has offers from all but one school that he listed.

“All of them except Kentucky,” Walker said, going on to add, “Kentucky [is] trippin, man, I told them because John Calipari called four days ago. I think they’re gonna offer.”

Walker said he did not get to speak with Calipari when he called, as he had poor service where he was, but the UK head coach did leave a voicemail.

Asked if he would commit to UK on the spot if offered, Walker replied, “No, I don’t think I’m gonna commit right off the bat.”

Thus far Walker said he has visited Florida State, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. He said his trip to Florida State, the local school, came on Thursday.

“I wanna visit OSU,” Walker said. “Kentucky and OSU.”

Chris Walker was easily the freakiest athlete in the camp. His run/jump athleticism is truly special and on top of that he plays with a high motor. His skill level is still a work in progress and he doesn't have much offensive polish but his fundamentals aren't terrible. He should be able to develop those skills in time as he's just half way through his high school career. The only concern for me is whether he'll be able to add enough weight to his body as he has narrow shoulders. But he's got a much better frame and significantly more upside than someone like Jujuan Johnson, who went in the first round this year. If he can bulk up to the 230 lb range in the next few years, he can be a top 10 pick. Otherwise he could get stuck being viewed as a tweener a la Amir Johnson.
