Walker Visits Florida, Will Attend Kentucky Madness
By Adam Zagoria on September 04, 2011

Chris Walker is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2013, and a potential pro.

The Florida native spent Saturday on the campus of the University of Florida, one of several schools he?s considering.

?It was nice,? the 6-foot-9 Walker, the No. 2 small forward in the Class of 2013, said by text. ?I watched Florida work out and scrimmage and got to have a one-one-one talk with Billy D [Donovan].

?He told me they are recruiting me the hardest and I could get it done in my own state and I could come in and be an impact player.?

Walker shared the visit with 2013 small forward Brannen Greene of Georgia.

?I met the academic [person] and trainer and weight lifting [guy],? Walker said. ?I met all the players and chilled with Brannen Greene. We took a tour of the school and watched the football game [a 41-3 rout of Florida Atlantic]. So it was a success.?

Walker plans to take another visit next weekend, although he?s not sure where yet, and will then hit Florida State the weekend of Sept. 16.

He also plans to attend Kentucky?s Midnight Madness Oct. 15.

?Yes, I am,? he said.

Chris Walker Sets Decision Date

By Alex Kline

Chris Walker, a 6-foot-9 2013 small forward out of Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Florida, has set a date for his college decision.

The Sunshine State product will choose between Florida, Florida State, Memphis, Baylor, Kentucky, Ohio State, Kansas, UConn and Kansas State on November 15th. Walker, who has more than fifteen scholarship offers, has seen himself transform into an extremely athletic and agile player on the court. Someone who runs the floor extremely well for his size, he is one of the ten most coveted players in his class and hopes to bring a few players with him to his college destination.

?After I commit, I?m hoping to get someone like Nerlens Noel, Brannen Greene, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, Julius Randle, Kasey Hill or Jabari Parker to come with me,? he stated. A majority of Walker?s schools are in play with these players, including in-state star Kasey Hill, a point guard from Montverde, who is being pursued heavily by Florida and Florida State.

As for the date of Walker?s commitment, he has had it in the back of his mind since freshman year.

?I?ve wanted to announce my decision before the first game of my year,? he said. ?I?ve thought about doing that since my freshman year.?

With a decision looming in less than two months, the only school who has yet to offer are the Kentucky Wildcats. While head coach John Calipari?s top target in the class of 2013 is 6-foot-7 Simeon (IL) forward Jabari Parker, he will likely watch the talented Chris Walker play in a few weeks.

The local Floridian has made a few trips to Florida State and Florida, recently, which could boast well for both the Seminoles and Gators. On the other hand, Walker hopes to visits Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis and Baylor in the near future. Kansas State was the first school to watch him at workouts this fall. He has favored Ohio State and a number of other schools before. The next two months of Chris Walker?s recruitment could get very interesting, very soon.

By Adam Zagoria on October 04, 2011

Kentucky coach John Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua spent part of Tuesday visiting Chris Walker, the 6-foot-9 forward from Bonifay (Fla.) Holmes County.

Walker said no official scholarship offer was made but that Calipari expressed his strong interest in recruiting him.

He added that it ?felt good? that they came to his school.

Walker recently backed off a Nov. 15 college announcement, in part because he was awaiting an offer from Kentucky.

He has recently visited Florida and Florida State, and will likely hit Kansas for Late Night in the Phog Oct. 14. He also hopes to trip to Ohio State.

CHRIS WALKER IMPRESSED BY TEAM CHEMISTRY ON VISIT TO KANSAS

October 17, 2011 by NBE Blogger

As one of the top players in the Class of 2013 in America, 6-foot-9, 205-pound power forward Chris Walker of Holmes County (FL) High School had his choice of Midnight Madness events to choose from. Anually one of the most entertaining and well-attended by recruits drew Walker?s attention as he attended Friday?s Late Night in the Phog on the Kansas University campus. Recruits got a first-hand look at how the KU staff and players interact with each other, something that greatly impressed Walker.

?The chemisty of the team and the kind of relationship that coach Bill [Self] has with his players is phenomenal,? said Walker.

Walker has previously visited Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Georgia. He talked with NBE on what draws his attention to a school.

?Schools with good academics; schools that win school [and] that has a great fansbase,? he said. ?[Also] a good relationship with [the] coach and a coach that will make you better on and off the court.?

With no leaders or favorites yet in the process, Walker mentioned Kansas, Kentucky, Florida, Ohio State, Texas, Baylor, Florida State and Memphis as the schools he is currently considering that are active in his recruitment.

Man On A Mission

Class of ?13 forward Chris Walker has the nation?s top college bball programs paying attention.

by Rodger Bohn / @rodgerbohn

M.O.A.M. The acronym that many players use nowadays in reference their mindset towards achieving their ultimate goal of playing at the highest level. You?d think that as a top-5 player by most scouting services, junior forward Chris Walker would be content with such a prestigious ranking. Nah, not him. He?s gunnin? for that number one spot.

?I think I?m the best player in the country because I can shoot 3?s now, take it to the basket, and have way better body control than I did in the past,? Walker said as he made his case for #1 in SLAM?s Fresh 25 for 2013. ?I?m ready to take my game to a whole other level. I go out there and try to kill.?

The versatile 6-10 combo forward put in work for Holmes County HS in tiny Bonifay, FL as a sophomore too. He put up gaudy averages of 26 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks, 4 assists, and 2 steals that look more like video game stats than what you?d expect to see out of a 16-year old. Holmes County won, too. They made it to the Elite 8 for the first time in recent memory and should only be better this upcoming season.

Still open to all suitors in the recruitment process, Walker told SLAM that he has a top five of Kentucky, Florida, Kansas, UCONN and Ohio State, in no particular order, with no intentions on issuing a pledge to a college anytime soon. While Kentucky hasn?t offered yet, Coach Cal was in to see the player who patterns himself after Kevin Durant just a few weeks ago. Rockin? all A?s and B?s in the class room with virtually every college in the country knocking at your door, outsiders would assume that Walker would have a Kanye-syndrome with a big ego. Not him.

?Most people don?t know that I?m just a normal dude who happens to be good at basketball. I?m just like everyone else,? emphatically exclaimed Walker when asked if the lofty ranking had gotten to his head at all. ?It?s great getting all of these college coaches to come to our gym to watch though, because I love giving my teammates that kind of exposure for themselves.

Sounds like he is waiting on Calipari to offer, KU may be tough,Self somehow has a way of getting guys to sign without a visit, then half the family moves to Lawrence with cush jobs. One player they have now said in a comment that he can't wait till Thanksgiving in Maui, with his whole family there. Can KU pay for the families visit? I am sure they are all paying their own way.

http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school...1395/lebron-responds-to-tweet-from-hs-recruit

The subject was where to take one's talents. Chris Walker asked and LeBron James answered.

Walker is a 6-10 junior forward at Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Fla. He?s one of the top recruits in the 2013 class -- currently ranked No. 5 in the ESPNU60 -- who has the interest of many of the programs in the nation. He?s also a big James fan and thinks so much of him that Walker sent James a message on Twitter asking where he should go to college.

Apparently, it was a serious question.

?I?m a top 5 player in the country in class of 2013. Where should I go to college Mr. James?? Walker asked James on Twitter.

?If LeBron hits me back and tells me where he thinks I should go, I'd do it,? Walker told ESPN?s Jason Jordan in an interview this week. ?In my opinion, he's the best player in the league and I really look up to him. Plus, he?s the king. Gotta listen to the king, right??

When James heard about the request he offered some advice, and a few school suggestions.

"The advice I would give Chris Walker is to follow his heart and go where he believes he can help the program and they can give him a great education,? James told ESPN.com.

?Of course Ohio State and Kentucky are my two favorite programs for many reasons. They have great basketball programs, great coaches, players and are two of the best colleges in America. But with that said, Chris, you will know where you want to go when the time comes. I'm looking forward to seeing you make the decision and take your talents to that program and shine.?

This time, it seems, James is being politically correct on the "taking of the talents" issue. James has been a supporter of Ohio State's basketball team, which started wearing his Nike brand of uniforms and shoes four years ago. Earlier this week James cheered the Buckeyes on in their victory over Duke. Several years ago, Buckeyes coach Thad Matta made James an honorary alum of the program.

It?s possible that the Buckeyes might have the inside track. Over the summer, Walker said in several interviews that he was favoring Ohio State. Now James is nudging him, at least partially, in that direction as well.

Over the last two years, though, James has also developed a new relationship with Kentucky. Coach John Calipari has been close with James for years. One of James? lifelong friends, Brandon Weems, is on Calipari?s staff. He?s attended several Kentucky games, practices and camps since Calipari arrived in Lexington.

if lebron ever wants to start the path to forgiveness in ohio, a good start would of been telling walker, Ohio State...leave KY out of it

I would hope that LeBron's advice is just one of many things that Chris is doing to gather information to try to make a decision, as opposed to a "if LeBron tells me to go to School A, I will go to School A" type deal. Certainly, LeBron's input has some value, but I think his decision of what college to attend should be about about what Chris Walker thinks is best moreso than what LBJ thinks is best.
