ESPNU Terrific 25 SF Jabari Parker has already done something special at Simeon High School in Chicago that former first overall NBA pick Derrick Rose didn't even do. Parker was the first to start the season on Simeon's varsity team as a freshman, and he became the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

"It felt special and I was honored and thankful that coach [Robert Smith] put me in that position," said Parker, who compares his game to Celtics SF Paul Pierce.

The No. 7-ranked player in the 2013 class is a versatile combination forward that can score inside and out with range to the arc off the catch or dribble. Parker has a great basketball IQ, matching work ethic and some impressive blood lines.

"Jabari was able to play at that level at an early age because he was mentally and physically ready to compete on that level," said his father Sonny Parker, who was the Golden State Warriors' 17th overall pick in the 1976 NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound sophomore thinks the strengths of his game are his footwork and ability to score. Jabari said he thinks he needs to improve his lateral foot speed to be a better perimeter defender, but many big-time programs are already vying for his services.

"I want a hard-working head coach that will push me," Jabari said.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and Illinois coach Bruce Weber, among others, stopped by Simeon High School on the first day of the fall recruiting period and are making Parker a recruiting priority, even though he doesn't graduate until 2013. Others on Parker's early list include Georgetown, Kansas and Washington.

"Getting to know the coaches and their staffs is key," said Sonny, who was a star at Texas A&M before playing seven years in the NBA. "I want Jabari to have a strong relationship with the head coach."

While Jabari is a great player on the court, he is also a great kid off of it. He attends Seminary every morning, maintains a 3.5 GPA and has a great relationship with his family.

"They support and encourage me, and my dad's basketball experience has been great because he knows the game and has been through everything that I am going through as a player," Jabari said. "My brother, Christian, helps me stay focused and grounded."

Jabari Parker Receives Yet Another Big Ten Scholarship Offer
By Roy & Harv Schmidt
September 16, 2010

Jabari Parker, the 6'7 class of 2013 forward from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago has been offered a scholarship courtesy of Ohio State University. Buckeyes head coach Thad Matta extended the offer to Parker tonight after watching him at an open gym at Simeon. The offer was confirmed by Jabari's father--Chicago basketball legend Sonny Parker.

At the present time Parker sports scholarship offers from five Big Ten schools--Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan State and Ohio State. Parker will now head to East Lansing, MI over the weekend to take an unofficial visit to Michigan State. It will include taking in the Spartans' football game on Saturday night vs. Notre Dame.

Contrary to another published report, Parker has NOT cut his list down to five schools. The five schools that were mentioned--Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, Washington and Georgetown--all remain at the forefront of Parker's recruitment. However, he is taking his time and weighing all possible options.

6-foot-7 sophomore Jabari Parker, who is arguably the best in his class, was just a beast in the 1st half. The young Parker always seems to be under control while playing physical and being ultra assertive.

Parker is very heady for such a young player and always appears to make the right play. He finished with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds.

Parker listed many high-major schools that were recruiting him including Ohio State.

Free Rivals - Eye-catchers: Flying to the Hoop

Jabari Parker, SF, Simeon
Bossi's take
: When you watch the 6-foot-7 Parker, it's almost impossible to believe that he's only a sophomore. His skill, feel for the game and effort are of the charts. But it is the maturity with which he plays that is borderline astonishing. Watch him operate on the floor and he's got the glide, confidence and approach of a multi-year pro. He's never too high, never too low, just effective and productive. Formerly most effective in the low or high post, Parker has extended his game to the three-point line and improved his athleticism. Duke, Michigan State, Washington, Northwestern, DePaul, Kansas, Illinois and many others have made him a priority early.

Flyin' to the Hoop Classic recap - ESPN

SF Jabari Parker (Chicago/Simeon)
Jabari is a multi-skilled player and a dynamic talent. His first play versus Dayton Dunbar was a fan dribble and step-back 3-pointer from 22 feet. He proceeded to dominate the game after that. Parker plays very hard and he simply outworks most of the other players on the court. He can do everything on the floor. He will be a very special talent as he continues to develop.

He looks much improved since the last time I filmed him this fall at John Lucas camp. He seems to have lost weight and gained athleticism in the past couple months. Plays very hard on every possession. Would love to see him as a Buckeye. Below is the Lucas camp footage for comparison.

Family keeps Jabari Parker grounded
Following in the footsteps of Derrick Rose, Simeon star stays humble in spotlight
Greenberg By Jon Greenberg
ESPNChicago.com

CHICAGO -- Lola Parker was stunned.

For two weeks, she had been trying to get her son Jabari Parker, a soft-spoken, 6-foot-8 basketball star-in-the-making, to talk to a coach on the phone. She couldn't understand his reticence, but he's just a kid.

This coach hails from the South Side and coaches a quaint, little private university in North Carolina. His name is Mike Krzyzewski.

So when she got them connected, on her husband's cell phone because Jabari didn't have one, she couldn't believe how quickly the conversation ended.

Jabari spoke genially and respectfully to the famed coach, she recalls, but the conversation "lasted less two minutes." And he didn't even leave his sister's bedroom to take it.

Lola was nervous and confused. Why didn't he seem more excited? Didn't they raise him to treat elders with deference and respect?

"Do you know who this man is?" she remembers asking him. "I want you to give him respect. It's like you're interviewing him."

Do you know what Jabari Parker said back to her?

"He said, 'Mom, don't get caught up in this stuff. Coach K is not Jesus. He's just another human being.'"

Lola Parker told me this. I was speechless. She was laughing. I mean, who says that?

Jabari Parker Receives A Scholarship Offer From Big 12 School That Is Hitting The State Of Illinois Hard

By Roy & Harv Schmidt

May 26, 2011

6'7 class of 2013 forward extraordinaire Jabari Parker from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago has received a scholarship offer from the University Of Missouri and new head coach Frank Haith. The offer was confirmed by Jabari's father and Chicago basketball legend Sonny Parker.

Jabari has enjoyed an outstanding spring on the traveling team circuit and has made a strong case for ranking as the #1 player nationally in the 2013 class. He will have an extremely busy and intense schedule ahead of him during the month of June, as he will partake in a couple of NIKE skills camps as well as the NBA Players Association Camp in Charlottesville, VA.

At the present time Parker holds close to 25 D1 scholarship offers--far too many to mention here. Many have reported the current frontrunners to be Duke, Illinois, Michigan State, Kansas, and Washington. However, as we have mentioned in the past, Parker's recruiting process is not about to end any time soon, as his family and Simeon head coach Robert Smith (the only ones who will have a say in Parker's final decision) will continue to take all factors into consideration.

Parker taking his time with recruiting
June, 3, 2011
By Scott Powers

Scott Powers for ESPNChicago.com
Jabari Parker lost 10 pounds and grew an inch since he led Simeon to its second consecutive state championship in March. He's now 6-8 and 220 pounds.

More and more high school basketball players may be committing as underclassmen, but Simeon sophomore forward Jabari Parker -- ESPNU's No. 2 player in the Class of 2013 -- has no plans of following suit.

Although every top program has offered him and would like him to end his recruitment today, Parker and his family have designed a multi-year strategy that will lead him to committing and signing to a college when he's a senior.

"When he commits, that's when he's going to sign," Parker's father Sonny said on Friday. "We want to go through the process. We're taking our time. We'll take some unofficial visits beginning in September. We'll take his five official visits.

"Then, we're going to have home visits. They may have a good interview on their court, but we want to interview them on our court."

Parker's family has set up strict guidelines. Parker's recruiting circle is only his parents and Simeon coach Robert Smith. Coaches can contact any of the three, but they cannot call Parker directly.

"He's still only 16," Sonny said. "We don't want that pressure to be on him."

There had been recent reports that Parker had released a top-five list, but Sonny said his son is still wide open. There are nearly a dozen schools which have an equal chance at receiving a commitment from Parker at this point.

DePaul, Duke, Georgetown, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State and Washington were among the schools Sonny named. He also mentioned Parker considering an unofficial visit to Texas A&M, which is where Sonny starred, and that newly named NC State coach Mark Gottfried had also recently contacted him.

"There's no particular order," Sonny said. "I asked him if he had a top five, and he said, ?Dad, wherever I'm going to get an opportunity to play.' Let's put it this way, he's an elite player, and he's going to go to an elite school. Whatever school he goes to, I know he wants to win a national championship."

Jabari Parker is the No. 2 overall player in the 2013 class.

Jabari Parker (Chicago/Simeon Career Academy)
2013, SF, 6-foot-6, 225 pounds
Parker has continued to impress and play at a high level. He has really taken his perimeter game to the next level by adding the ability to beat defenders off the bounce with a variety of dribble moves or simply shoot over them. His body is slim and trim and he is finishing above the rim on the break and with clear paths with authority. Parker has the feel and skill to score inside and out and make others better with his passing ability. Overall, he's a very talented and complete young player who has yet to disappoint. Schools in the mix for Parker right now are Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, Illinois and Washington.
