'13 OH PF Devin Williams (West Virginia Verbal)

I have not heard of any grade issues but that does not mean it wasn't there.

His "list" has been odd. His list 6 months ago looks completely different than it does today. I don't recall seeing WV or MU on there at any time. OSU had been listed but not in his favorites (maybe due to a lack of an offer).

Regardless, I like OSU's chances here if they put the full court press on him during his visit. OSU is the best program on his list, is in the best bball conference, is close to home but not in his backyard, and has the best facilities. I got the impression Mem was the bigger challenge more so than WV but I could be wrong.

I guess we'll know shortly.

Williams a Cincinnati native is down to 3 schools for his services West Virginia, Memphis & Ohio State. According to his AAU coach Michael Duncan, next week will be a something that Devin will never forget ? He is going to sit down with his coaches, then make a decision?. Even his AAU coach has no clue where the four star recruit might end up ? I tried to peek into who leads, but he mentioned all 3 teams were too close right now?.

Yeah, I was thinking Devin should come to OSU, but I can see why he may not have been a top priority for OSU, or a great fit. First of all, he is not ideal size-wise for an OSU 5-man and he is clearly more of an inside player than an outside player. In short, he is a typical PF style of player. However, Matta runs the 4-out & 1-in, and that means the 4 man is supposed to be a big wing player rather than a traditional PF. So Williams would've had to play the 5 at OSU, but typically the guys Matta has recruited to play the 5 have either been old school low-maintenance players who block shots and rebound, or the leading scorer on the team and focus of the offense. Williams probably wouldn't have been either. Another point is that Matta no doubt wants to be able to land Jahlil Okafor in 2014, and getting Devin in 2013 may have been a negative in that regard.

So the short story is Devin is a very good talent that should be a great college player, but I don't think he would've been a great fit in Matta's system at OSU.
