Mason CoLLLe (OL ttun)

Buckeyes In the Mix for 2014 Left Tackle
By Michael Chung

Mason Cole, an offensive tackle* in the class of 2014, is coveted by many major college programs. Standing 6-5, 285 pounds, the lineman out of Tarpon Springs, Fla. already holds offers from the likes of Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, USC and Michigan, despite the fact he is only a junior in high school.

Ohio State has offered Cole and the Buckeyes would love to add this Floridian to their 2014 class. Having only two pure offensive linemen for 2013, Urban Meyer and company could look to add as many as 4-5 offensive linemen in 2014, and they would love for Cole to be a key part of next year?s class.

Though he lives in Florida, Cole grew up west of Chicago, so he was not born with a natural allegiance to the South. He has already set foot on the Ohio State campus and plans to come back at some point. Can Cole be another Mike Brewster and anchor the line in the name of the Sunshine State?

His teammate, Artavis Scott, earned an OSU offer when Buckeye coaches came down to scout Cole at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs. Scott and Cole have talked about playing college football together and both have an Ohio State offer. Can the Buckeyes nab these two? Cole recently took some time to let Buckeye Nation get to know him better.

Ozone: You have offers from so many top schools; can that make the decision process harder with so many choices?

The posters on Stadium and Main feel he's their's to lose. From looking through the thread, they may have a point. I hope Mason compares depth charts, because as we all know, our depth chart has to look great to a recruit.

I think they're right but it's early. I think OSU has a better shot at McDermott when it comes to Florida OL in 2014. Not sure who else they are prioritizing at this point because I think OSU leads for Trout and Jamarco Jones.

Roderick Johnson from Missouri is a top target as well. Could very well get a nice little assist from Eze on this one (once he re-ups for us of course).

Agreed...OSU also pursuing Damien Prince, Sam Mustipher, Braden Smith and Natrell Harris in addition to Johnson and McDermott.

And that isn't mentioning Orlando Brown, whom I personally have at the top of my wish list at tackle (not sure about the staffs) and we have a GREAT shot with. Cole is good but I'm not concerned about him heading to scUM (presumably)...I'd prefer a class of Mustipher and M. Jones at guard, then Brown, Trout, and J. Jones/Prince at tackle. All that being said, I'm not sure how scUM is still being named leader for top OL prospects with all they have brought in.

Cole looks like a guard to me. Jones is a guard. Mustipher is a guard. Smith is a guard. They need 2-3 true tackles. Trout is a start. Brown/Prince/McDermott look like true tackles. Don't know enough about Harris at this point.
