'14 MD OL/DL Sam Mustipher (Notre Dame Verbal)

247 - Mustipher Looks For Something More

3/1

Among the visits he's taken so far are two of Michigan's chief rivals, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Both went well, particularly Notre Dame, but one thing about Michigan specifically stuck out to him when visiting Columbus.

"I was visiting Ohio State for the Michigan game," he said, "and didn't really have a full idea of what the rivalry was like. It was amazing; you could see the pride in both fan bases just being there. One thing that really stuck out to me was how loud the small group of Michigan fans was when they'd do something good. You could hear them over the rest of the huge crowd. To me it spoke volumes about how much Michigan fans love their school."

Mustipher is planning return visits to Columbus and South Bend along with Florida State and Tennessee among others this off-season. At this point, he's strongly contemplating a decision before his senior season because he doesn't want to be a distraction to his teammates, as his main focus is winning another conference championship at Good Counsel. He is a four-star, Top247 recruit according to the 247Composite rankings and holds offers from the aforementioned schools and also Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson and Nebraska among others.

Good Counsel?s Sam Mustipher set to visit Notre Dame, three Big Ten school
Posted by Brandon Parker on March 28, 2013

For most Good Counsel students, next week?s spring break will be a time to sleep in, relax and perhaps try to find sunnier skies down South at the beach.

For Sam Mustipher, one of the area?s most sought-after football recruits, the week off provides time to visit four of the many Division I college programs vying for his commitment.

Starting this weekend, the junior offensive lineman plans to drive up to Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Ohio State with hopes that the unofficial visits will help him trim down his list of 29 offers.

?I would like to narrow it down to a top 10 eventually, but I know there are a lot more visits I have to take,? Mustipher said in a Wednesday phone interview. ?I?m just trying to get a feel for as many schools as possible and I?ll make my decision on my own time, so I?m not too pressed to announce a top 10 right now.?

...and the shutout on upper tier out of state O Line prospects continues. It will end before long though....right?

I would think so...expect Jamarco Jones to pull the trigger fairly soon for the good guys. Kind of a bummer here but if we could land Quenton Nelson (who I actually prefer as an interior guy) it would make up for Mustipher. Unfortunately, Nelson is favoring ND as well so hopefully we can pull some magic.

I am not incredibly concerned yet though, as I believe Trout and M. Jones are a great nucleus to build around and I see J. Jones joining the fold soon. That gives us enough talent to land one of the JUCOs and add one other talented national guy for one heck of an OL class.

I am far, far from freaking out....just pointing out the slump. It's just a weird contrast in an otherwise stellar recruiting resume for this staff.

Oh for sure, I got you. Even UFM alluded to the fact that the staff killed it with every position but OL last year and needed to focus their efforts on the OL in 2014. Not sure what the issue is here getting the national guys though...plenty of opportunity for early PT with 4 starters leaving next season, a great OL coach that can recruit in Warriner, and a history of putting OL in the NFL. Only real issue I can think of is potential lingering effects from the Bollman era...
