'14 NY OL Tim Gardner (Indiana Verbal)

In all seriousness though, obstruction doesn't sound like something to get kicked off the team for. Must have been other things involved.

Or a case of different flexibility based off of different levels of talent. Braxton gets an obstruction, I highly doubt he's given the boot.

Which isn't really right since Gardener has not even gotten the chance to practice yet. I'm curious for more details on this one.

Maybe, but that should NOT be taken into account, IMO.

Also, is there anything to be gleaned from the "2013 season" part? As in, possibility he'll be back for 2014?

+1 and, if true, that's a shame. I'm certainly not saying obstruction should go unpunished and we don't have all the information at hand here, but on the surface this looks an awful lot like an "expendable" guy getting jettisoned.

Which was a fundamental problem in the old regime and led to star players believing that they were under a different set of rules. Hopefully you're wrong and things have changed.

That scholarship to take one or both of the JUCOs perhaps.

I totally do think it's wrong, but there's some guys that are given conditions to earn a scholarship, and some that are given the royal treatment... it's business. When Gardner was told to lose the weight and come back and compete to earn, I'd imagine when he earned it, was told "now don't do anything to jeopardize this" Some just need a reason, some you hope not to find a reason.

Sorry to see Gardner go. Roby's charges get reduced to a lesser misdemeanor and he sits 2 games, conflicting stories in Hyde's deal leads to no charges being filed resulting in his re-instatement but he sits 2 games as well for being involved. Thus ends the trifecta of bad news. Reeves/Grant/Apple get more PT as does Smith/Dunn/Ball and we sign a 6th OL in the 2014 class. I'll take it, thank you.

Not Gardner's first "issue" since he's been here.
That seems to be the word and would make the punishment seem more appropriate.

That's news to me. Interesting we never heard about his earlier issues.
Not everything that happens is necessarily public knowledge. Especially when it's lesser known freshman.
