'14 NY OL Tim Gardner (Indiana Verbal)

So 6 offensive linemen in this class it is.

Exactly what I thought. To be honest, I never really saw Gardner contributing here. Of course I would never say that in a recruit's thread, but just saying this is easy to palate...he is easily replaced imo. The larger concern is the amount of unrelated arrests lately...this is getting old real quick.

On the surface, this doesn't seem right. I know there are people who know better than I do about what's going on, but just giving an outsider's perspective.
It seems, according to those in the know, that it's the culmination of a handful of incidents that has led to this. It doesn't sound like he screwed up one time and was shown the door. Also, IIRC, a clear roadmap was layed out for Gardner to receive his scholarship. Maybe he had to stay on that path to keep his scholarship, and at the judgement of the staff failed to do so. Just my way of reading the situation...

How many players can you name who were dismissed for discipline one year and successfully made it back the following?

How many times have you heard them say not a part of the 2013 team instead of, "No longer a *insert mascot*", or "No longer a member of this team"

Adding the 2013 is what made me question it.

But I'll just assume he's kicked off the team completely then.

I'd like to hear more about these other so-called incidents.

I understand he had a path to scholarship, but he certainly gave up other educational opportunities to come here. He shouldn't be treated any differently than any other player.

You may like to hear more about the other incidents, but the fact of the matter is that the school doesn't owe you or any other Buckeye fan a report. You've clearly chosen to assume the worst, what with your use of loaded language like "so-called incidents" and "He shouldn't be treated any differently than any other player" (the latter, suggesting that you think he is). But perhaps you should give the staff the benefit of the doubt?

I could be mistaken but it's my understanding that he is suspended for the 2013 season.

I haven't chosen to assume anything. Clearly, we're not talking about any other criminal incidents. And I don't know about the severity of the Obstruction charge. The staff could very well be justified in choosing the discipline that has been meted out.

I'm just hoping he wasn't treated differently because he wasn't a highly rated recruit. The staff isn't obligated to tell me anything. And I'm not obligated to give them the benefit of the doubt. It may just be a situation with unanswered questions.

Pardon me for interrupting your rush to assume the worst.

The coaching staff took a chance on a kid based on him fulfilling the requirement they set forth for him to earn an offer.

He repeatedly failed to continue meeting the requirements they set forth for him to be at Ohio State, whatever those may have been, and they sent him home.

Were his requirements for staying on the team slightly different than some other more highly valued prospects? Possibly, but at the end of the day does it make a difference?

As long as his standing with the team was made perfectly clear to Gardner while he was repeatedly screwing up this summer (1st strike, 2nd strike or whatever) than I am fine with the "worst case scenario" that OH1O is rushing to in the first place.
