DeShone Kizer (official thread)

I just spoke with someone who who formerly coached football at Central Catholic HS in Toledo. Here's our brief conversation:

Me: I suppose you know DeShone Kizer.

Coach: Really well, actually.

Me: Is he the real deal?

Coach: Absolutely. Good kid, too. Smart. Very good family.

Me: Pretty impressive offer list, eh?

Coach: Alabama, LSU, ....

Me: Where does he want to go?

Coach: Ohio State.

We need to offer him, right now!

I gotta disagree a bit here.

I'm a fan of DeShone's, he's an Ohio kid with a lot of potential and seems to be a good fit in the offense, but a couple of issues. One, if we're in good shape with Allen I'm taking him and calling it a day at QB. Second is more based on Kizer....while I love his footwork in his drops and he maintains great balance in the pocket while moving, he's got some work to do in planting and driving through his throws. I think his focus on the footwork has detracted some from his mechanics as his film shows some poor accuracy as a result. Now if you can take 2 QB's in a class he's a guy you can bring in, let the staff work on and see where it goes but in the case of a 1 QB class unfortunately I'm going with the out of state Allen and wishing Kizer a great and successful future elsewhere, hopefully in the Big Ten.

DeShone Kizer doesn?t have a scholarship offer from Ohio State, at least not yet.

But the quarterback from Toledo Central Catholic was impressive in yesterday?s Elite 11 quarterback camp regional tryouts at OSU. He was named the winner ? over OSU target Brandon Harris and more than 100 others ? and received an invitation to the finals in Eugene, Ore., next month.

As for whether an OSU offer also might be in the offing, Kizer said offensive coordinator Tom Herman watched him work out two weeks ago.

?He said he was going to go back and re-evaluate me with coach (Urban) Meyer,? Kizer said. ?It being my hometown school, it would be very nice, they?re kind of the big dogs on campus. But I don?t necessarily know that they?re just going to jump to the top (if an offer does come). I?m also considering some very nice schools (including Alabama and Louisiana State).?

I don't think Kizer is losing too much sleep over an offer, especially when he has offers from LsU and bama. And osu has him more as a plan b type or a project, and Meyer doesn't seem to like projects(especially with our numbers crunch). Harris or Allen to osu and well be set at qb.
And on a side note, how slick of les miles and cam Cameron to find a loophole to getting to see the qbs at the event. I know they had sons there, but come on, they found and exploited a loophole in true sec fashion
