DeShone Kizer (official thread)

I don't think Kizer is losing too much sleep over an offer, especially when he has offers from LsU and bama. And osu has him more as a plan b type or a project, and Meyer doesn't seem to like projects(especially with our numbers crunch). Harris or Allen to osu and well be set at qb.
And on a side note, how slick of les miles and cam Cameron to find a loophole to getting to see the qbs at the event. I know they had sons there, but come on, they found and exploited a loophole in true sec fashion

Don't not think for a second they aren't concern with what we are building up here!

Kizer may have been better suited with the Buckeyes for playing time or LSU, I thought he'd go to Urban personally if he offerred. If Golson comes back to the Irish next year he'll have 2 years available to play and would probably take both. After that Kizer will have to go up against fellow OH QB Malik Zaire for the open spot. Bit of a log jam right now at that position.

No offense meant with this but why do you consider two QB's (Golson and Zaire) ahead of Kizer a logjam? Kizer would likely have that kind of competition at most programs including :osu: (Miller, Jones and Barrett) and LSU.

Maybe not a log jam, but looking at the schools he was thinking about -Kizer has a better chance of getting into a QB competition sooner at OSU once Braxton is finished or LSU. By the time Kizer joins his class he would only need to wait one season to compete for Braxton's spot, and thats if he stays for his senior season. At LSU I think Mettenberger would be gone by the time Kizer steps foot on campus. At ND he'll need to wait probably 2 years and then hope to beat Zaire out who has a similar skill set and will have some experience by then. I'm glad he's aboard, but I didn't think he'd jump in to be honest.

I can't understand why any QB would go to Notre Dame and it isn't because of the depth chart. It's because, when you do get your opportunity to play it lasts until the first time you make a mistake, at which point you get yanked out of the game and humiliated on national TV like a 5 year old who just walked across the carpet in muddy shoes.

Worst case for ND (best for a us) is they start Zaire and he has a great year. Kizer would have to sit for 2-3 years. So I see a potential flip. I actually see this happening, even though Gholston has more experience, Zaire is loaded with talent.

For Kizer, best case scenario is they start Gholston this year and Zaire doesn't get his foot in the door as a freshman starter. Then it would be similar to the situation we had at Florida last year. Two of the top 5 quarterbacks chose Florida at the same year. They split reps with the first team from spring practice until the second game in August. That lack of reps very well could have cost them a loss against BGSU in game 1 or aTm in game 2. Recipe for disaster. Kizer and Zaire wouldn't be much different, though Zaire is a year older, Kizer has a ton of talent and similar skill set. This is why I like to get a 'top 5' quarterback every other year, or 3rd year if you squeeze our a redshirt.

Certainly unrealistic expectations at times, but a big stage to showcase your talents if you succeed. Golson struggled earlier in the season, understandably so for a redshirt freshman. He got yanked in a few games in favor of a guy with experience, but he also got some big game experience and by the Oklahoma game he bridged the gap and cemented his place. He got to take part in 4 of the top 15 watched games during the regular season not to mention the NCG. While that one was a flop, it had little to do with Golson's play, he was one of the few positives. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many unknown QBs that got more exposure last year.

Isn't the biggest problem with this discussion that he didn't have an OSU offer?
