'14 OH RB Mikel Horton (Kentucky Verbal)

Donte Horton, father of Lakota West High School running back prospect Mikel Horton, said the camp was just as exciting for the parents watching as it was for the campers participating.

?It feels great to be out here in this atmosphere watching my son compete against some of the top high school talent,? Horton said.

Horton also said the camp is a good experience that will be beneficial for his son going forward.

?Now Mikel has a feeling of what is demanded from him on the college level,? Horton said. ?I think this will prepare him and motivate him to be the best he can be.?

Big Ten programs interested in RB Horton
August, 23, 2012
By Jared Shanker | ESPN.com

CINCINNATI -- It was a busy summer for 2014 running back Mikel Horton. Not only was he going to camps to gain exposure, he was also switching to a new high school. Horton left Lakota East for Lakota West (West Chester, Ohio).

?It was a big transition this summer,? Horton said.

Horton is learning a new offense, too, going from East?s triple option into West?s shotgun-based offense. To expedite the adjustment, Horton spent the summer working on his footwork, vision and burst through the hole.

After a strong sophomore season, the 6-foot-1, 223-pound junior camped at Cincinnati and Ohio State.

Playing at a school in Southwest Ohio, Horton already has a strong relationship with Buckeyes assistant Kerry Coombs, a former Cincinnati assistant and high school coach at Cincinnati Colerain.

?I love Ohio State. Coach Coombs is one of the closest coaches I talk to,? Horton said. ?I?ve been talking to him since he was at Cincinnati.?

Not sure if he is what Meyer wants in a RB, but I was fairly impressed by him.

Started off slow with absolutely no room to run, but got stronger as the game went on and took over in the 4th quarter. Definitely looks the part of a high D1 recruit.

Mikel Horton makes it back to Ohio State
September, 15, 2012
By Jared Shanker | ESPN.com

Mikel Horton (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) is no stranger to The Horseshoe. The 2014 running back was at Ohio Stadium once again to take in the Buckeyes? game against California.

?It was a great experience. The crowd was crazy, and (Ohio State) had a great game,? Horton said.

Based on the way Horton talks, it sounds like he is most interested in Ohio State. He will take his second visit to Columbus in a few weeks for the Michigan game. The new regime at Ohio State has done a tremendous job turning things around. It may be too hard for other Big Ten and Midwest schools to out-recruit the Buckeyes for Horton?s signature on a letter of intent.

?I like Ohio State a lot because I?m an Ohio kid. The atmosphere and the team are outrageous. Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches, from my perspective, in the NCAA,? he said.
