Prospect watch: Aliquippa?s Dravon Henry

When Aliquippa coach Mike Zmijanac called Dravon Henry into his office and informed the Quips? star that Ohio State had offered a scholarship, Henry was in denial.

?I didn?t believe it at first,? Henry said. ?Then I went on the Internet and saw a story that they were recruiting me, and saw it was for real.?

Henry was excited, not because it was his first offer ? he counts Pitt, West Virginia, Kent State, Maryland, Rutgers and Toledo are among his suitors ? but rather that he wasn?t expecting the Buckeyes to pull the trigger so soon in his junior year.

Contd....
Have seen several articles reporting an offer, but nothing from the major recruiting services.

We finally come down to Ohio State. It is rumored that Ohio State had New Castle?s Malik Hooker higher on their board than Dravon. After Hooker committed to play defense, we?re hearing it might?ve sealed Henry?s fate to go to the Buckeyes. Now, the Buckeyes very well might still have a scholarship for Henry, but as of now, it is looking bleak for the Buckeyes to land Dravon as they already have filled most of their recruiting needs with a star-studded class.

THE SCOOP

Henry has a tattoo on his chest that reads "truly blessed." For sure, Henry is blessed with many talents. He has been on Aliquippa's varsity team since his freshman year and had a big 2012 season, running for 1,919 yards and scoring 31 touchdowns as the Quips won their second consecutive WPIAL Class AA title. He and Terry Swanson will make one of the most potent one-two running back combinations in the state. Henry also is an excellent defensive back.

COLLEGE TALK

Henry has a number of Division I scholarship offers, and he has narrowed his list to Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia and Ohio State. "I'm still looking at some other schools, too, because you never know what's going to happen during the season," Henry said. "I don't really have a favorite so far."

When an Aliquippa youngster makes a backyard interception, the kid with the ball doesn't always shout the traditional ?Oskie.? At times, a spirited ?Rell Reeeev? can be heard instead.

It's a tribute to Darrelle Revis.

?Everybody screamed his name,? said Dravon Henry, who counts himself among those who at times mimicked the NFL cornerback from Aliquippa when playing tackle football as a kid in the parking lot at Valley Terrace Apartments.

In most towns, kids dream they're the quarterback. In Aliquippa, the defensive backs have become heroes.

It was 10 years ago that Aliquippa won the state championship with a senior class that included Revis, and these current Quips were impressionable grade schoolers in 2003. They closely watched the cornerback become an Aliquippa legend, a college standout, an NFL first-round pick and ultimately an All-Pro millionaire.

?We were little in these stands watching them play on this field,? said Henry, seated among the wooden bleachers at Carl A. Aschman Stadium. ?Now kids are saying, I want to be a defensive back. Be just like Darrelle Revis. Be just like Ty Law.?

And maybe someday, just like Dravon Henry?

?I hope so one day,? he said with a smile. ?That's why I work so hard. A couple little kids will run up to me now yelling: ?Dre! Dre!' That makes me start thinking, man, I've got to make it. I want to be like Darrelle. I want to do what they did. Leave a memory here.?
