I'm trying to find some perspective for this offer. I understand we are in a little bit of desperation mode at guard, but Trice is a kid you wouldn't expect to be much of a contributor for a few years (it took his brother 3 years at MSU and he was a better player). If I am trying to read the tea leaves, they tell me this offer means Markell isn't likely to come here.

I am not positive but from what I have been reading in the past couple weeks on Cleveland.com it looks like Johnson might not or cannot reclassify. I might be wrong but he is still listed as a 2017 recruit.

Well, I did consider that, but I just don't see that the 400th or so ranked player in the class is really going to be able to contribute much as a frosh. I mean I guess if you have an emergency it has to be filled, but why fill it with a 4 year guy if you think you have it filled with a top guy coming in next year?

I won't pretend like I know much about Trice's game, but I can look at his ranking and think that we can probably do better. Its possible the Jackson commitment changes things with the offer to Trice.

I don't know anything about this kid other than his brother. I see a lot of people doubting the offer. On one hand his brother was not highly recruited but Izzo took him and he ended up being a very solid 4 year player. However, it is telling that Izzo hasn't offered....

I don't know enough about D'Mitrik, either. he seems to have had a good season at IMG. he has some decent offers, foremost being Wisconsin. I tend to think the CJ Jackson commitment might have us out of it but it's possible they are still interested in Trice as a pure PG option and might be planning to redshirt him if they got him.

Izzo probably never even began to think about offering because he already has Tum Tum and has T50 Winston coming in the 2016 class.

While I would "pass" as some have mentioned above, it looks like Matta is still interested along with Wisconsin and Vanderbilt.

Trice has the Buckeyes among his top three finalists along with Wisconsin and Vanderbilt. He will visit the Badgers from April 22-24 and the Commodores from April 24-26 but does not have a date in mind to make a final decision, his father said.

After helping lead the Warriors to the 2015 Division I state title, Trice – a two-sport prep athlete who also excelled in football at Wayne – opted to spend a year at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy to fully concentrate on the sport.

“Now that he’s been able to concentrate on basketball for a full year, everything has improved dramatically,” Travis Trice said. “He wanted to concentrate on his body and basketball for a year. He’s had a basketball in his hand every day for the past year.”
