Moyer picks up four high-major offers in one day

For most high school basketball players, receiving just one Division I scholarship offer can make a student-athlete's dreams come true. For Gahanna's Matthew Moyer, those dreams are becoming everyday reality. Picking up four high-major offers in less than six hours, Moyer wrapped up a successful week in Philadelphia by adding Arizona State, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest to a long list of schools that have offered the 6-foot-8 rising junior power forward.

After participating in the Reebok Breakout early last week in Philadelphia, Moyer's VCC Ohio Warriors rolled to a tournament title at the Philly Invitational. Behind Moyer, and Columbus Northland small forward Seth Towns, who picked up an offer from Iowa on Sunday, the Warriors overcame a four-point halftime deficit to take down Team Philly, 43-41 in the title game.

When I was growing up, my dad's was a diehard Colts fan. Don Shula left the Colts after the '69 season and went to the Dolphins and my dad absolutely hated the Dolphins and Shula for leaving. My favorite football team growing up and still to this day, the Dolphins. Point being, kids often like different things than their parents.

Moyer doesn't have any aversion to OSU and was thrilled with the offer, but he still wants a UM offer. I know he is a UM fan and has discussed with another local prospect about the possibility of attending there together. Doesn't mean he will absolutely end up there or that he doesn't have interest in other schools. I think UM will be the destination should they offer, but I will say, I never expected OSU to offer.

Here is one relatively recent article talking about who he'd like to get an offer from. http://www.landgrantholyland.com/20...ne-moyer-picks-up-4-offers-bess-receives-high

Can anyone expand on the two comments above? I have only seen references to issues but no direct statements quotes. TIA!

While the Buckeyes would appear to be natural favorites, Fred Moyer said the family has bristled at the way Ohio State handled Moyer's recruitment. He said Moyer set up his own official visit at Ohio State instead of being invited and walked away without an offer, earning one only after Florida and other schools showed major interest.

"We're going to give them a fair shot," Moyer said. "But if he goes somewhere else and he blows up and in a few years he's in the NBA, that looks horrible for them. If you're interested, offer him. If you're not, don't offer. It kind of looks like a back-handed compliment. To not show any interest, or have much of any contact, with a kid who lives that close, I mean, come on."

The kid averaged 7 point a game last year for his high school team. Admittedly he has kind of blown up on the AAU circuit this year...but to be upset about OSU not offering in the August before his junior season is a joke. Like @OSU_Buckguy said this might have been best for everyone.

He played on a pretty good HS team with a fair amount of DI talent on the team. I suspect with Bess gone and improved perimeter skills, his role will expand quite a bit this year.

From the quotes, it sounds to me like they wanted OSU's love (wanted them to be a player), but to them, the offer didn't come like they wanted. I assume Thad had interest given that an offer was made, but with our current roster makeup and other potential '16 recruits, he wasn't given the "we need you at all costs" treatment.
