#16 Ohio State vs. Cincinnati, Wednesday, November 6 @ 8:30pm, FS1

So Holtman says they scrapped the offense at halftime? Then they started scoring?

I don't quite get that.
The thing is, the offense wasn't working that badly in the first half. Kaleb was getting their bigs in foul trouble trying to push him out of position. The problem we had was being a little too impatient (forcing some drives) and not making any shots (from the foul line or perimeter). They were doubling hard and we were finding guys open, but we were hurrying the shot a little as a defender ran at us. We need just needed an extra pass or a little more movement off the ball (the man whose defender left to go double just stood out at the 3pt line and never attacked).

The second half we went to all high ball screen and pushing more in transition. It didn't really generate any better looks than the first half, but we went 4-7 from three instead of 1-9 and we drove a little more which allowed us to get to the foul line and make 19 of 24 (after 0-5 including 3 front ends in the first half).

things did look way better... in the second half.

osu's game was not an isolated incident. the duke-ku game was just as bad. uva-cuse was pathetic. sure, the cavs won by 14, but they scored only 48 while committing 16 turnovers and shooting 4/25 behind the arc. play a tough foe in the very first game and chances are it's not going to be pretty.

i'd feel MUCH worse if osu played well in the first half but horribly in the second. instead, in the second half, osu shot 55% overall, 56% behind the arc, and 79% from the line. there was a night-and-day difference between the halves. the second-half team should do a lot of damage this year.

furthermore, we shouldn't diminish the other side of the court. osu's defense was outstanding. this uc team is not the uc teams under cronin. they have players who can shoot. they have a lot of experience. but osu kept them to 33% overall and 19% behind the arc while holding them to under 60 points. andre was an unsung hero with his stifling defense on jarron.

as stated before, there are lots to be happy with regarding that game. i'm choosing to focus on the progress rather than the slow start.

Also, in the first half Kaleb was way off balance. He almost looked like he hadn't quite figured out how to navigate the physics of his new slimmed down body at full game speed. Thereafter, he seemed more normal. It definitely seems like he's going to pick up far fewer cheap "fouls" this year.

Still juggalos, Fickell or no Fickell.

Wish we'd started the anti-UC ref fund before the 1961 season.

Anyone got anything else on Andre? I thought I saw another tweet that he was being taken to the hospital for an eye injury. Could be something serious

in slow motion, looked more like contact to the upper cheek below the eye. could be an orbital fracture and/or even a dental issue. hoping just the skin opened up, needing only sutures.

hope he's back by nova. our defense will take a big hit if not.

Fair points, I'm probably being too negative for it being the first game against a good opponent. Our defense was certainly outstanding throughout the game and we needed it, especially the Wessons. And Young got off to a rough start, but really improved and showed a ton of heart and effort the whole game.

My concern wasn't so much bad shooting, it was the sloppy play and inexplicable turnovers. But it's the first game with a bunch of new faces, so I guess it's understandable. In any event, we're 1-0 and beat the Juggalos at their "own" sport. I'm very pleased by that.

For years, Cincy fans cried that Ohio State was afraid to play them. After three losses, no so much anymore, eh?

Have you met the juggalos? I suspect there's still plenty of crying going on about any manner of what the fuck

Yeah , they’re using the excuse of the refs this time around. Seems like that’s always the excuse though. I honestly hope we never play them again.
