I know our chances are probably pretty slim with this recruit but I have seen his name mentioned a couple places.
Walkers is rated as five-star shooting guard, but you can consider him more of a combo guard. The 6-foot-5, 205 pound Georgia native is a supreme athlete, rated the No. 22 overall player in the Class of 2017 in 247Sports' composite ratings. According to his 247 profile, Walker is highest on the Buckeyes, Florida State and Maryland right now.

He's continuously listed the Buckeyes among the schools recruiting him the hardest. He'd fit the mold of a ball-dominant guard the Buckeyes have had in players like Lyle and D'Angelo Russell.

From what we are hearing, Ohio State is looking into giving him the opportunity to play both basketball and football for the Buckeyes with Walker being previously highly recruited as a football recruit as well with offers from schools like Clemson, Michigan, Florida, Auburn, Miami, Ole Miss, UNC, and Duke before shifting his focus to basketball full time around his junior year. We are also hearing that Virginia Tech is not considering that dual-sport athlete option at this point though that definitely could change.

Not sure how much stock I put in that...

I found an article from last may saying he received a number of offers before playing HS football. It also mentioned that he had only played 1 year of football in the previous 4 (8th-11th grade) because he chose to focus on football. He felt he could be a high level football player and felt that playing in the NFL was still a possibility down the road.

MJ Walker is the 5-star basketball recruit who thinks he could play in

National top-25 prospect Walker narrowing in on decision

Comes from a family of college basketball players who are being thorough in the process. Has made official to VT, OSU and FSU and unofficially visited GT. Could still visit UCLA. His coach is a native of Cinncinnati and Moeller alum and said M.J. took the visit to OSU because of his long standing relationship with Greg Paulus.

My take is they can get this kid...but what would really help is him not visiting UCLA. I would REALLY like to see OSU land Walker...he is going to be a talent on and off the court that would be a welcomed addition to the program.

Not that it deters these types of players, but UCLA has so many top-100 recruits coming in this year and next year, it might not be as appealing to him to travel across the country for that much competition. The top 3 on his list all present excellent opportunities for immediate playing time. That's the biggest difference I see. UCLA has six guys lined up for this class (all are high on somebody's list), and a top SG already verballed for next year. Probably just a dream trip.

The Malik Hooker draft pick could help us here, whether MJ is going to try the NBA route or not. In his head, he has to be thinking that an all-American basketball player can go first round in the NFL at Ohio State, regardless of what really happens.

I think the Lyle (bye-bye) departure might help us in the recruiting of Walker. Matta can always point to how he helped Turner develop into a premier PG and we can sure as hell offer him plenty of playing time in his first year. Also, I do not see football entering into this recruitment because he probably will only be here 2 years max if he comes.

i agree. unfortunately, what doesn't help us in the recruiting of walker is the uncertainty of who will be coaching him after a year. to be sure, any player whom osu is recruiting is being told by other staffs that if you commit to matta now, you (probably) won't be playing for him later. if walker expects to be one-and-done, though, that may not matter much to him. but playing march? yeah, that may matter.

anyway, i'd be shocked if walker commits to osu. i doubt we're even in his top three.
