I'll try and be optimistic, hope Thad found a gem. Its certainly surprising to say the least that this is the first that 99% of us have heard of him, and we had to beat out the likes of Winthrop, Miami (Oh) and Western Kentucky for. But all that negativity aside, seems like he could be under the radar for whatever reason. Played point on national championship high school with Funderburke. Read he's an outright scorer, could have had 100 in a game last year, but was pulled with 70, with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Thad didn't reach in my opinion, because he had a lot of time to watch him while watching Funderburke. I think he was just the back up to the back up option.
Might be a case of getting overlooked nationally for natural things out of his control. Here's to hoping he fits right in how Thad envisions him.

Kevin Warren is an ass
He originally committed to Miami (Ohio) but decided to go to Hargrave. If he would have stayed in high school there was speculation that he might have been Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky.
I think @starBUCKS is spot on with his assessment after reading this article.

So he was supposed to be a freshman at Miami OH right now but reclassified to 2017 four months ago. I looked at some older articles on him and last year he looked to be higher ranked, between the #16-#22 PG in nation for 2016 per Scout, but once he reclassified he doesn't have much of a ranking. He has some very high praise in a lot of these older articles from a yr ago when he verballed to Miami.

I'm not sure why you're having a problem, but I was just stating that he had a higher ranking when he was a 2016 Miami OH verbal before he reclassified a few months ago. I also added that his coaches and bball evaluators have high praise for him so he doesn't look to be that big of reach compared to just looking at his player profile from other sites.

Needed guard help, not sure he'll bring much as the #307 rated in the class with his best offer up until now as GW.
Still hoping they can bring in another G that can step in and play at this level next season. Have read some rumors that Jarron Simmons from OU will do a merc year at tOSU next season ( possibly taking over for JaQuan Lyle ).

I watched a few videos on this kid and he looks pretty good as far as I am concerned but I certainly do not know as much as you when it comes to basketball talent evaluation.

All in all, I'm glad we added him because we were in desperate need for a guard in the class and don't have a lot of realistic options. He sounds like a good kid, a hard worker, a tough competitor. He doesn't solve all our potential backcourt problems, not by a long shot, so the staff's gotta keep recruiting the best they can.

I watched some clips of Braxton back when he was a rural Kentucky player, because I was curious about his high ranking for a rural white PG. He was in the top 100 lists of some services when he was a soph. Probably around 120-130 when he was a senior transferring to Hargrave. Anyway, he did appear to be a bit under 6', but I don't know what he looks like now. That is the draw-back. The plus is that he is a very good ball handler, shooter, and floor leader. He looks smart and quick in everything I remember. My impression is that he was a kid that could thrive at a mid-level, but would be a great addition with any high-level. I wouldn't compare him to Craft; he's better offensively, but not going to bring some of the other things to the table. I guess an apt comparison would be someone like a Richie Farmer, for those that remember him.

In the year's second match-up in this bitter rivalry, the #2 nationally ranked Tigers took on the #3 nationally ranked Blue Devils in the Battle at the Beach's primetime slot. Behind massive performances from Brandon Knapper (30 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), Braxton Beverly (23 points, 4 assists) and Naji Marshall (12 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals), Hargrave was able to avenge their only loss on the season in dramatic fashion.
The game was tight from the get-go, with both teams living up to their national rankings in a true heavyweight slugfest. The Tigers were able to carve out a 2 point lead at halftime, a lead that ballooned to as many as 9 late in the second half before a late comeback attempt by Fork Union Fell Short.
Hargrave moves to 20-1 on the season with the two wins, and will be back in action Friday January 20th at the Toyota Classic in Georgetown, KY. Fork Union and Hargrave have the chance to meet again at the First Piedmont Tournament, hosted by Hargrave on February 24th and 25th.
NOTE: Beverly plays on a team with 7 DI recruits. Knapper is headed to West Virginia and Marshall is headed to Xavier. His team blows most of their competition out of the water, but Beverly puts up double-digit points and solid assist numbers in the games where they play equal talent. He had 12 pts. and 10 assists against South Kent and 20 points against 22FT Academy.

Short and sweet opinion of Braxton Beverly, for those who don’t want to read all the way through.
I like Braxton Beverly as a player and think he’s a solid pick up for Ohio State who will do nothing but pay dividends throughout his career in the Scarlet and Gray.
He’s in the mode of a PG who can score if needed. My feeling is his intelligence is the very best attribute Braxton will bring to Ohio State. He’s always where he should be and is making sure others are, too, as it is within his power to do so.
If you like players who know the game plan and help teammates do their thing, then Beverly is your kind of guy.
Besides intelligence, Braxton’s creativity, competitiveness and steady leadership are other positive attributes he’ll bring to Ohio State starting next season.
Offensively, he’ll beat you any way a defense will let him. He can handle defenders who play up on him or lay off him. Either way, Braxton has the skills and mind to defeat those challenges.
Defensively is where, I’m sure, there are questions to be answered by him when being effective versus high level NCAA Division One hoop teams are concerned. He has the lateral quickness to defend out top. He competes on that end of the floor, looking for advantages to gain but I don’t have a sample of his facing the big bodied athletes who roam the Big Ten courts to provide any answers as how he will do against them.

Athleticism:
…..Strength – B – Braxton’s not quite Aaron Craft strong but he can handle himself. You can’t knock him off his base.
……Fitness – A+ – Braxton was on court for 33-35 minutes of the game and moved at full blast the entire time.
……Agility – A – Whatever you throw at him he has an instant counter to it. His body control gets the space he needs.
……Leap – B – He’s not an above the rim guy. He gets up quick, fast and high on jump shots.
……Speed – B – He can go where he wants to. Not slow by any means.
…….Quickness – B – His feet are really good. He’s not lightning quick but good enough.
Dribbling skills – A+ His knowledge and application of the use of changing speeds is unerring. Operates at a high level with either hand.
Passing skills – A – Braxton’s abilities in this area underscore the fact if his teammate is open he’ll get the ball to him. It’s my opinion he’d not shoot the ball an entire game if he saw continual opportunities to give the ball up to teammates who’ve made themselves available for scoring opportunities.
I was thinking how well he and Kaleb Wesson would mesh together on the same side of the floor. Both are very smart players and think ahead and make great reads. Put them together and the would make a good duo.
Shooting skills – A – He took his share of shots and not once sniffed making a poor choice to take a bad shot. Everything comes within the offense. Beverly is a deadly catch and shoot off the ball shooter.
His free throw shooting ability will prove to be as good as anyone Thad Matta has ever recruited. Jon Diebler comes to mind.
Defensive ability – Incomplete. If I had to label him I would say C+. I didn’t see anything that led me to believe he’s a defensive stopper, where Aaron Craft’s attributes as a defender are the comparison. Neither is he lazy or ever out of position.
Big 10 comparison – Stylistically, the healthy Spike Albrecht.
Outrageous comparison – Mark Price.
Overall grade – I’m not going to go with a letter grade because I’ve not seen him play in person enough to do that.
But I do feel with a player like Braxton you have to look at the overall package. On offense, good things happen when he has the ball. Defensively, he’s where he’s supposed to be giving smart effort.
In my opinion, Braxton can get a lot of good things done and comes into the Ohio State program as a mature young man who’s prepared himself to contribute right from the start.
My thinking tends toward the idea he’s going to surprise Buckeye fans with the level of his effectiveness on court.
