'18 DE CG Eric Ayala (Maryland Verbal)

I'm thinking that if he decides to re-classify then it would have to mean OSU at this point right...?

Not sure I know on that end. Seems like that would be the case, but the other posters in here are more knowledgeable than myself in terms of Bucks bball recruiting.

It wouldn't even be especially shallow. Yeah, we wouldn't be loaded with depth but Ayala shores up that issue at both backcourt spots, giving us a very workable roster.

With the right coaching I think it could be a competitive team. Right now the only major thing holding this team back, in terms of personnel, is the backcourt situation.

I would agree with the italicized and add "without injuries"...but yes, I think Ayala is a piece of the puzzle that could make us competitive and at least fun to watch.

Under Armour All-American: Night One Notebook (July 19)

It was reported in April that Ayala would not reclassify after flirting with the possibility, but as is sometimes the case in basketball recruiting, individual situations change without much warning.

"It's still out there, I’m still open to it,” Ayala said after scoring 8 points on 3-for-4 shooting Wednesday. “I know if I go 2017, it's going to go a little bit faster. I'm going to have to take my visits. I don't want to commit having not taken visits. I want to get to know the school, the coaching staff on a personal level.”

...

There has been a buzz lately regarding Ayala and the Buckeyes since Chris Holtmann took over last month. Ohio State is one school specifically looking to get Ayala on campus this fall, not a year from now.

“They were recruiting me at Butler, and it wasn’t really working out at the time, but when they got the job at Ohio State, things kind of clicked,” Ayala said. “They need a guard to come in right away and make things happen.

“Ohio State is pursuing ’17 more than ’18. All this really depends on who has a scholarship for ’17. Not all of them do.”

...

With time being spent on the west coast this summer, Ayala says he would like to visit schools out there, naming Oregon and Arizona, specifically, before noting he does not have any official visits lined up yet.

I know paperwork (transcripts, application, admission, etc) can probably be expedited with a nudge from Coach/AD, but seems like Ayala won't really have time to take official visits everywhere he wants with enrollment deadlines approaching.

Just a guess, but I feel like this gets resolved sooner than that.
I have seen it written in a number of articles where he has stated that he would like to make his decision in late August. I do not know if he has changed his mind but you are absolutely correct out what you stated regarding time frame.

Four-star Eric Ayala still undecided on reclassification decision

...

While a number of programs have made a push for his commitment as a 2018 prospect, Ohio State and Oregon have risen above and pushed for his commitment in the 2017 class.

...

Ohio State:
“Just the opportunity that they have for me to make things happen. They have also been showing a lot of love. I like that. They are making me feel like a priority coming to a lot of my games.”

“The opportunity is there for me to come in and make things happen.”

Oregon:
“West Coast basketball, I kind of like the way that they play over there in the Pac-12. It is fast-paced but it is not as physical as it is over on the east coast. I kind of like the Pac-12 a little bit. Oregon, coming in, and jumping right in, definitely interests me.”

...

WHAT'S NEXT

Ayala wants to visit Oregon and Ohio State before making his decision.

“Right now, it is about finding the right school that I like as either ‘17 or ‘18," he said. "I haven’t found that exact school just yet so I could be willing to wait in ’18 or I could go right to ’17.”
