Elijah Weaver (PG USC, transfer to ???)

quinerly chooses between arizona and villanova tonight. arizona is the overwhelming favorite. if he shuns villanova, then weaver is expected to be their primary target.

And Quinerly goes to Arizona. Felt like this was a battle with Villanova either way though. Think they have had the advantage for a bit, but we have come on strong. Out of all of the guys in the '18 class we have any sort of shot at, Weaver is the guy I want most. Jmo.

thanks. it's good to see that weaver shot well during that camp in mid-july. my earlier post was just an attempt to explain a possible drop in ranking by noting his outside shooting and assist-to-turnover ratio from 16 uaa games leading up to that camp. weaver shot 25% from three (20/80) while racking up 36 assists to 45 turnovers. though a big drop to 92nd (per scout, as mentioned) would not appear to be warranted, it may be tough for a guard to maintain his ranking if not shooting well or taking care of the ball.

now with all of that being stated, that low ranking by scout might have been a website error. scout currently ranks weaver at 39th. his 247 composite is 37th, with rivals and espn placing him at 28th and 45th, respectively. however poorly weaver shot through much of the under armour series and however lackluster his assist-to-turnover ratio was, apparently the scouts still value him as a high 4-star player. and for good reason. he is really good and has a ton of potential.

the good: four visits scheduled; one more possible; villanova nowhere to be found.

the not-so-good: possibly a 12/30 commitment.

Four-star guard Elijah Weaver breaks down four official visits

Starting the first weekend of September, Weaver has four consecutive weekends of official visits. He’ll start with USC the weekend of September 2nd. He’ll then see Ohio State the weekend of the 9th, Florida the weekend of the 16th and Oklahoma State the weekend of the 23rd.

“I’m down to those four, but I’m still talking to Memphis, Illinois and NC State to try and decide if I want to take my fifth official visit to one of those schools,” Weaver told Scout.

...

Ohio State: “They were making me a big priority when they were at Butler. I was their first offer when they moved to a new school, so that showed a lot. It really showed me how much they were interested. That’s what I’m looking for, what coach is going to be a man of their word, per se. They told me they were going to be at every game this summer and they were. They just want to put the ball in my hands.”

...

In terms of making his choice, Weaver is potentially looking at his birthday, which is December 30th, but doesn't have anything set in stone.

Ohio State men’s basketball: Buckeyes in hunt for Florida point guard

At or near the top of that list for 2018 is Elijah Weaver, a four-star point guard out of Oldsmar (Florida) Christian School who, according to his coach, didn’t have to wait long for a phone call from Holtmann after he was hired. Along with a handful of prospects from Ohio who got offers on the same day, Weaver was an immediate priority.

“He was the first person that they offered when switching (schools), so that just showed all of us how serious they are about him,” coach John Bianchi told The Dispatch. “Those guys are amazing, especially coach (Mike) Schrage. We talk pretty much every day, but the relationship started when they were at Butler.”

...

“Our relationship is great,” Weaver said of the Ohio State coaches. “Coach Holtmann and coach Schrage text and call if not every day, every other day, and I think that’s what made me decide to do an official (visit). They seem to be very serious in the plan they have for me and I’m just anxious to get on campus and see how I feel there, which will ultimately be the deciding factor in the whole recruiting process — where I feel at home.”
