'18 IL SG Tim Finke (Grand Canyon Verbal)

my interest in finke certainly was close to non-existent, especially after his poor aau performance, but his decision to go to grand canyon university is really odd. gcu entered division 1 just a few years ago, and it's a for-profit college where the overwhelming majority of its students are on-line. something like 60% of its applicants are admitted and only 60% return for their sophomore years. without getting "political," gcu ain't exactly stressing science, if you know what i mean. this is not a rigorous academic institution by any stretch. they did hire thunder dan as head coach and the program is improving; however... it's still gcu. but i guess when your offers from illinois, ohio state, notre dame, northwestern, and vandy (among others) were more or less rescinded because you can't shoot, you're not athletic, and you're not still growing, then the safest of safety schools can become appealing.

Just randomly saw a video of a student section going bonkers on social media, then looked it up and it was this school- Grand Canyon U. Sounds like they must be doing something right. Sold out their 7,200 seat stadium for season tickets. Looks like a giant party (as I guess one would expect for the academic level mentioned above ). But hey, good on them.

The craziest fans in college basketball root for a school you've never heard of

Interesting thing going on out west in their first year of tournament eligibility.
