'18 OH G Dwayne Cohill (Dayton Verbal)

Very surprised that the weasels from up north did not make his "final" cut. I thought they were going to be our main competition for him.

Michigan got a commitment from 2018 PG David Dejulius and at this point I don't think they are recruiting any more PG/CG type players. They will have a junior Simpson, sophomore Brooks, and frosh DeJulius all at the 1 in 2018-2019. Not to mention Ibi Watson and Jordan Poole at the 2.

I think the problem with Cohill and OSU is if Cohill tries to play his recruitment out too long. Kind of absurd that the fall signing period is around the corner and Cohill is just now announcing a Top Ten, not a Top Five. Now, if this list gets cut in half in a month and Cohill takes 5 OVs this fall with an intent on making a decision right after that or during that process, OSU will stay in play. But with our guard situation, we need to sign some guards this fall, Holtmann ain't going to wait around until spring and the feeding frenzy over what's left. Given that we currently have one PG on the roster and he will be a senior in 2018-2019, pretty sure the staff will want to have a lead guard committed sooner than later.

Cohill might be our best chance at that, but we do have some other options (Rob Phinisee, Will Richardson) that we won't say no to.

Good post but what are our chances with the other two guys that you mention.. I think we might have a shot with Phinisee but not sure about Richardson..

Edit: Upon further review I do not think that we have a shot at either of these guys.. It looks like RP is a Indiana lock and Richardson will probably stay down south. So I guess that Cohill is our best option..

garland will likely go to duke, but archie has emphasized recruiting him. perhaps garland surprises and commits to indiana or perhaps phinisee doesn't want to wait on garland's decision in order to have a committable offer to indiana. i don't know. though i do think phinisee to osu is unlikely if for no other reason than indiana being his probable destination, i do not think that holtmann is out of it for phinisee.

whether it's phinisee, cohill, or any other guard, though, i can't see anyone committing to osu at least until ayala decides. i don't foresee holt taking a point guard in both classes, especially considering that francis in '19 is more or less a lock.

in regards to cohill, it certainly seems like osu is in the driver's seat. his evaluation of the program and specifically the coaching staff couldn't have been more positive. my guess is it's either ayala to osu this season or cohill to osu next season. otherwise, a 2018 recruit will beat cohill to the punch.

I feel like Cohill is a must get. Need to try and "plant" the flag in Ohio.
I guess I do not know if he is a must get if we could land Weaver and Muhammed. I think with the late start that CH got with recruiting the state of Ohio I am fine with not planting the flag this year and possibly in subsequent years. Basketball recruiting, just like football recruiting, has become too national for Ohio State just to rely on in-state players. Having said that if Cohill wants to give us an early verbal I would be extremely happy.
