'18 PA SG Robby Carmody (Notre Dame Verbal)

holt offered carmody but not ahrens despite there being interest. with justin no longer being a buckeye commit, i wonder if the play here is for robby. they're two off-guards with similar builds and athleticism, but carmody is a more highly regarded player.

Don't really see what Carmody brings to the table when you have Goodwin in the same class. I would consider Ahrens different from both of them. I'm sure you are right about Carmody being the play here, though...Holt really liked him and went after him hard.

You probably have watched more video of Ahrens then me but I do not really see that much difference between Carmody, Goodwin and Ahrens. I would take Carmody and Goodwin and Ahrens can go someplace else if he wants. I certainly would not take all three of them but I will let CH make that determination.

Again, Carmody and Goodwin are like clones. It's not that Carmody isn't good, it's just that he is really, really similar to Goodwin. Ahrens is more athletic, scrappy, and left-handed (throws in a defensive wrinkle) than both of them. Small difference, and normally I would be fine with a top-100 guy like Carmody, but he's not a SF (Ahrens can play SF), so I don't see the reason to bring him in with Goodwin's class. I have no idea what is going to happen with Ahrens, but I'm pretty sure Dane is still coming to Columbus.

If we end up with Cohill, that even further negates a Carmody, because Cohill is not a pure PG, either.

yeah, it's probably accurate that goodwin and carmody are too similar to have both. i do agree that ahrens is more variable and athletic. i actually like him more than carmody.

the fly in the ointment to this discussion, however, is christian david. he's a '17 butler commit as a 6'6"-7" shooting guard. like kyle young but unlike the remaining three commitments to butler's '17 class, he's yet to re-affirm to the bulldogs. there is a chance he and/or young become buckeyes for this upcoming season. the greater likelihood is that they're just waiting to see who the next butler coach is before making a statement, but it's not unreasonable that they're in play for osu.
