PG Desi "DJ" Carton (transfer to Marquette)

From what I could see, Ohio State's Chris Holtmann and all three Buckeye assistant coaches were on hand — that's a big statement to send your full staff to watch a prospect on the first night, especially with so many of the shoe-brand kids playing in Atlanta and Indianapolis.

...

But back to Ohio State: If it hadn't done so before, it made it clear to Carton that he is a priority by sending all four coaches to watch him Friday.

Twitter Tuesday: Romeo Langford, D.J. Carton, Tre Mann

D.J. Carton is fast becoming one of the most popular recruits in this feature and for good reason, the product of Iowa is a stud who has worked his way into five-star consideration.

Frankly I’m surprised that some of the “bluebloods” haven’t come calling yet but it’s not like he’s got stiffs recruiting him with Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio State, Wisconsin and many others making their pitch.

It’s also important to note that Carton has already conducted several in-home visits and taken several campus visits. He has the look of somebody who wants to decide early, so if national powers are going to get involved, they are going to have to do so soon. Hitting the road the last few weeks and talking about Carton with people behind the scenes, it seems Michigan and Ohio State could be slightly ahead of the pack with Indiana, Iowa, Marquette and Wisconsin likely right in the mix.

6 cb's to ttun in just over 12 hours. this is generally indicative of a behind-the-scenes verbal commitment or at least someone from the player's camp stating that a program is (firmly) in the lead. given that carton just announced his top 6 and given that he has yet to take an official anywhere, my guess is it's the latter. until an out-of-state player takes an official, though, i'm not going to get too up or down. that being stated, ttun has a ton of momentum and a lot to offer. the current direction appears obvious.

i wouldn't be surprised if some more guard offers go out. perhaps tyrell terry or andre gordon. gordon looks like the kind of in-state player we look back on and question why there wasn't more interest.

USA Basketball: Six remain for top-50 guard DJ Carton

One of the top point guard prospects in the 2019 class, DJ Carton has settled on a group of six. Following his continued ascension into the national spotlight, Rivals.com caught up with Carton in Colorado as he is vying for a spot on the final United States under-18 unit.

A 6-foot-3 guard that can be valued most for his competitiveness, scoring, athleticism and mature approach, Carton recently narrowed his college list to a group of six. Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Iowa, Xavier and Marquette made the final cut as he discussed his feelings for each.

...

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Ohio State: “I have a great relationship with Coach (Chris) Holtmann and Coach (Mike) Schrage and the same with some of the players from going up there for open gyms and stuff like that. I really like the campus and overall, I just had a good visit with them when I was up there earlier this year.”

...

In the meantime, Carton is set to see all of his finalists. “I have visits set with all six. Some are officials and some are unofficial visits. I have talked to them all and we are just trying to get the exact dates because of all of the camps that I am going to and I will plan from there,” he said. “I want to say I am going to Michigan on June 28 but if it isn’t then, it is sometime in late June. I know I am going there around then and also Indiana sometime in June, as well.”

Asked upon whether a commitment could take place before July, Carton didn’t seem near a decision. “No, I don’t, honestly. I don’t know who my favorite is or who is leading right now,” he said. “I am just enjoying the process and trying to get to know the coaches more and more. I am just going to play it out until I get that gut feeling and know where I am the most comfortable.”

D.J. Carton schedules first two official visits

Bettendorf five-star point guard D.J. Carton has scheduled his first two official visits.

Carton will visit Michigan on June 27 and 28 (a Wednesday and Thursday) and then Indiana that weekend, his high school coach told the Register.

Michigan and Indiana are among Carton’s final six schools, along with Iowa, Ohio State, Marquette and Xavier. He does not currently have a visit to Iowa on the schedule, but he has said he wants to visit all six schools before he makes a decision.

may be a reflection of interest. may be a reflection of logistics. may be both. regardless, don't find this article all that surprising.
