* E.J. Liddell, PF (Belleville, Ill.): Holtmann visited with Liddell in February, and saw him again with Pedon earlier this month. That was before the Buckeyes landed Gaffney, so it's a bit unclear if there's room for a player like Liddell after getting Gaffney. My guess would be yes, because Holmtann values versatility. The 6-foot-7 Liddell is the No. 52 overall player in the class, and has the skill set Holtmann values at the forward position.

EYBL Hampton: EJ Liddell remains a wanted man
There isn’t a whole lot that EJ Liddell cannot do, of which was on display at the fourth session of the Nike EYBL on Saturday. A super versatile frontcourt prospect that can play a variety of positions, Liddell has not lacked for college interest as he enters his final summer on the travel ball circuit with a wide open with his recruitment.

A 6-foot-7 forward and strong four-star prospect in the 2019 class, Liddell recapped his spring. “Things have been going really well. Me, personally, I have been having a very good spring. I had a great session last session and we are just trying to come out here and get qualified for Peach Jam,” he said before assessing his strengths as a ballplayer. “I get my money inside first because that is my bread and butter but if it isn’t there, I can stretch my game to the outside, pass and dribble.”

Colleges offers and interest are not lacking as a handful of Big 10, SEC and Big 12 programs have remained strong in their pursuit for Liddell.

...

Ohio State: “Coach (Chris Holtmann) really loves versatility. He wants me to come and be a big part of their team. He is recruiting me really hard and texts me every day. Coach Holtmann and Coach (Ryan) Pedon, they really want me there. I am also taking an unofficial visit there on June 8.”

...

He discussed his next visit and when he plans on taking the next step within his recruitment. “I am going to Ohio State June 8 but I haven’t planned any others for now,” he said. “A lot of other schools have been texting me and showing interest but I will probably narrow things down after July and after Peach Jam since that is one of the last evaluation periods and when most of the scholarship offers come in.”

probably an osu-missouri battle for the player. as of right now, my expectation is that the 2019 class will consist of (guard), gaffney, and liddell.

Ohio State men’s basketball | 2019 PF E.J. Liddell enjoys unofficial visit to campus

While Ohio State was hosting a few dozen high school teams from across the region for the second day of its boys basketball team camp, the men’s basketball coaching staff was busy on multiple fronts.

With games taking place on the main court at Value City Arena as well as both practice gyms, the Buckeyes hosted 2019 four-star power forward prospect E.J. Liddell on an unofficial visit.

In the parking lot preparing for the six-hour drive home to Belleville, Illinois, Liddell said his first trip to Ohio State was important.

“They’ve been really making me a priority and I’ve loved Ohio State since I was a kid,” he said. “I used to be a chubby kid so I thought I’d be a football player and play football here. I’ve always loved Ohio State because of the culture and how good they’ve been in basketball and football for a long time. I wouldn’t have come up here if I didn’t really feel like a priority. They’re prioritizing me and said they love their versatile forwards.”

...

“They talk to me all the time,” Liddell said. “Coach Holtmann takes time out of his day and they always text me every single day. They don’t miss a beat and they always make me feel welcome.”

...

The Buckeyes have a commitment from four-star forward Alonzo Gaffney of Garfield Heights in the 2019 class. Liddell presents a different skill set and could be used in tandem with Gaffney.

“I’ve seen him play a lot and he’s more of a spaced-out type of guy on the wing and I’m more of an inside guy,” Liddell said. “We both could switch positions and I could go out on the wing and he could go in the post also. They said we would fit each other really well.”

like the way this one is trending, just feel like the type of recruiting battle that Holtmann can win
agreed. despite liddell living in illinois just outside of saint louis, this recruitment doesn't strike me as one where osu is behind the eight ball because of location. i think we're running no worse than shoulder-to-shoulder with missouri and illinois. possibly the slight favorite. things will certainly change, but my prediction is still that we get gaffney, liddell and a guard who is not carton (possibly/likely being one ho1tmann has not yet offered). that's not to say, though, that i'd take an even-money bet on us getting liddell.

Illinois standout Liddell enjoys visit to Ohio State

As basketballs were bouncing all around the Schottenstein Center for Ohio State’s Team Camp Friday, OSU coach Chris Holtmann and his staff rolled out the welcome mat for a national top-75 prospect.

E.J. Liddell, a power forward from Belleville (Ill.) West, made an unofficial visit to Ohio State. The 6-8, 220-pound Liddell is rated as the nation’s No. 61 prospect overall, No. 11 power forward and No. 2 overall in Illinois for 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite.

“I liked the facilities and I loved the campus,” Liddell said. “The campus surprised me because it was really big, but it was not spaced out like I thought it might be. You could walk around. You don’t need that much transportation to get from place to place.”

...

OSU has one commitment for 2019 in national top-30 forward Alonzo Gaffney of Garfield Heights, Ohio. The Buckeyes have two more scholarships available as they look for a point guard and another forward, most likely.

“They said they need two versatile forwards,” Liddell said. “(Gaffney) is a guy who plays on the wing most of the time. I am a guy who can play on the wing and in the post. We complement each other because he can shoot. He needs to get better and what I’m good at, posting up, and I need to get better at what he’s good at, which is shooting threes.”

...

“I don’t have any other camps or visits planned right now,” he said. “I went to Illinois about a month-and-a-half ago for one of our school programs.

“I’m taking my time and getting out to places when I can. I’m not really rushing things right now. I’ve already been to Illinois. I don’t know if I will get back up there anytime soon. Wisconsin called me and they want me to come up there, but I don’t know when I will be available to get up there.”
