C Zed "Finger Guns" Key (Official Thread)

Saw this this morning, liking this pick up more and more I think we got two undervalued guys in Key and EB3 would be even happier if we can get say Gaffney to develop into some much needed backside help to let players like Key and Liddel's potential shine through because next season we should be truly positionless and will be able to literally switch everything defensively

key led all scorers with 25 in luhi's game versus sierra canyon (brandon boston, zaire williams, bronny james, etc.). teammate curbelo was notably the best player on the court, but zed showed out. think it was biancardi who called him a "poor man's jared sullinger," which i think is fair. more of a sully than a kaleb, though key should showcase more of an outside shot in college than sully did.

Bronny is a frosh and SC is loaded in the back court. Don't have a ton in the front court, but do start a 7'3 center who isn't a very good athlete. Their top guys are slender wing players. Still though, great performance against a top ranked team for Key. Long arms, light on his feet, good touch. Very close to EJ Liddell with a little less athleticism and a little taller.

the patrick school has 2021's overall #1 player and two 4-star post players. definitely good competition for zed. he didn't rack up those monstrous numbers against cupcakes. deserves a healthy bump from 156th in 247's final rankings.

Ohio State signee Zed Key completes monster week with 37 and 16 as LuHi tops the Patrick School
...

Key went for 37 points and 16 rebounds against the Celtics, who feature junior forwards Adama Sanogo and Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 1 junior in the nation. Key did all of his damage in the paint and with little to no dribbling, scoring on an assortment of layups, putbacks, dish-offs from Illinois-bound point guard Andre Curbelo and post moves off of some nifty fakes.

“He embarrassed us in the paint,” Patrick School coach Chris Chavannes said. “He was outstanding, not just on the offensive end. He was active on both ends of the floor. He hurt us on both ends of the floor.”

...

“Oh man, I’ll tell you what, Zed Key has been on a different level since about Christmastime,” LuHi coach John Buck said. “We went away to Hawaii and the first night he played not up to his standard and we really challenged him and ever since that moment he’s been electric.

“He’s one of the best big guys in the country, I think.”

Buck, who played at Wake Forest, said Key’s game can “expand to the three” at the next level, where he’ll be “a special player.”

“He’s a wonderful kid, not once has he ever given me attitude once. And he wants to be a great teammate. He loves his teammates. He’s super-proud to be at LuHi and I know he’ll be super-proud to be at Ohio State and try to help them win.”
