Has been in contact with Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Xavier, and George Washington this spring and has visited Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Xavier, Louisville, Kentucky and West Virginia...building a relationship with the OSU staff and players.

Zach Loveday, C, Louisville Magic - At nearly 7-feet tall, and only 16 years old, Loveday is a unique prospect because of how well he moves. Loveday runs the floor extremely well and actually can also move laterally. Add in that he has good hands, solid vertical explosion, and solid touch on the interior, and there is a lot to like about his game. As Loveday gets more confident and stronger, he should become one of the more consistent interior prospects in the class.

it's early, but loveday not ultimately becoming a buckeye would surprise me.

Ohio State men’s basketball | Positive vibe as team camp ends
Ohio State is recruiting Zach Loveday, a 7-foot center in the class of 2020 who landed a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes last fall. Gallipolis (Ohio) Gallia Academy came to camp last year so Loveday could continue to work his way onto Ohio State’s roster. This year, the Blue Devils returned because they, too, want to be playing here in March.

Having a coach in place helps, too.

“Oh, especially when he’s recruiting one of your kids,” coach Gary Harrison said. “We’re Buckeyes. It’s very important. I’ve got to know (Holtmann) and he’s very personal and he’ll get to know you and he can tell you some things here and there. If you’re being recruited it’s important to get to know the coaches and who you can trust.

“They had success this year and it’s really got the buzz. One thing they’re doing is they’re going to get some Ohio kids that can play.”

Basketball | Versatile 7-foot recruit Zach Loveday wants to pick on someone his own size

There aren’t a lot of opportunities for a 7-foot high school player in southeastern Ohio to find corresponding size to play against.

It was with that in mind two years ago that Gary Harrison, the boys’ basketball coach at Gallipolis Gallia Academy made the decision to bring his team to Ohio State’s summer team camp.

Ohio State offered him a scholarship last fall, and he spent time with coach Chris Holtmann and his staff during the two-day camp. Buckeyes assistant coach Terry Johnson, who coaches the team’s big men, was on hand watching.

Since the OSU offer, “I got a Xavier offer,” Loveday said. “I got a George Washington offer a couple days ago. Louisville I believe is supposed to offer, and Clemson I believe is supposed to offer as well. That’s all I know of. If I can make a really good impression this July, that can really skyrocket (things) as well.”

Through it all, Loveday said, he’s looking for a situation that can help him grow on and off the court.

“I don’t really want to be a one-, two-year (player) and go to the draft unless I really, truly believe that I am mentally and physically superb to come in and compete for a really good spot,” he said Thursday. “I want to really focus on an education because Ohio State, we met with coach Holtmann today and they had a slideshow: there’s a 500,000(-member) alumni base around the world. If you go here, if you go four years and you get a degree and you need a job, you’re going to get it because so many people watch you and follow you and pay attention to you.”
