probably isn't one, but there could be an interesting squeeze play here between sueing and johnson. you'd think a mid-spring official portends a commitment earlier than the fall. throw in johnson's already existing and very strong relationship with dieber, and, well...

whether it leads to something concrete from either johnson or especially sueing, johnson's official looks like a major development.

interestingly enough, this is keon's final official visit for his junior year. players now get 5 officials to be taken during their junior scholastic year and 5 more during the senior year. granted, junior-year officials are no longer good indicators of early commitments, as i mistakenly claimed above. nonetheless, keon will have seen enough after this weekend that a decision would not appear rushed.

keon's junior-year officials:

vandy - 9/28/18
auburn - 10/12/18
tenn - 10/19/18
uva - 11/9/18
osu - 5/10/19

the obvious challenge for osu is that keon won't get to play any conference games near his home and few games, if any, otherwise.

it's interesting... i'm going to assume that the staff has known for a day or so that sueing was committing to ohio state. heck, i think he might have verbaled yesterday. so to set up an official with a 2020 wing while you're preparing to have publicized another wing's transfer? seems a little peculiar to me.

now maybe keon is fine with burning his last of 5 junior-year officials in spite of the recent news. i mean, the year is coming to a close and you might as well get a free trip somewhere, right? and perhaps you visit osu and keep them in your back pocket because who knows what happens with osu's roster sometime later. which makes me wonder...

It is a bit odd, but then again, Holt is going after guys that are more likely to leave earlier for the pros than we have been used to seeing lately. The odds of a 1 & done with the '19 class are certainly higher than they have been for the most part. Or maybe he knows something else about the guys on the team currently.

while true, i don't see keon waiting until next spring.

if keon's visit still happens, my expectation is that we'll get some unexpected personnel news. just don't know when.

It seems as though Johnson and Sueing are being considered as either/or options at the wing. Johnson is regarded as a shooting guard (2) by all of the rating services, and Sueing is seen as a small forward (3), and possibly even a 4. So, it appears to me that the question is: whether to take a highly rated shooting guard, or hold on for a big (Garcia, Loveday, etc.).

It may seem like heresy, but, at this point, the 2 would seem to be our weakest position. Both Muhammad and Washington are under-sized and thus far, unproven. I love both, and think they will become solid 4-year players (particularly Washington), but to pass up a highly talented, 6ft-5in shooting guard would be difficult.

so maybe Sueing did end our Keon pursuit?

if that's the case then have to think we're not pursuing any 2020 wings any more aside from MAYBE Scottie Barnes.

wonder if the staff's preparing for a hard push on Dain Dainja and then once they get a big--him or whoever--they call it quits on the 2020 recruiting unless multiple spots open up.
