'20 TN SG Keon Johnson (Tennessee Verbal)

Lots interesting here. Good to see we made the Top 3, that speaks volumes to his relationship with Diebler given that OSU just got involved.

In-state Vols seem to be the heavy favorite and got a CB today from Andrew Slater. That said, his commitment date is August 6th. There is plenty of time for OSU to keep pitching him and hopefully he reschedules that OV soon.

I have to think that if we're in his Top 3, we are still pursuing him and he is still interested in us despite the addition of Sueing.

take this with a grain of salt:

word from someone very close to keon is that osu knocked the official out of the park. the narrative that he's a lock to tennessee appears to be false. osu is in a much better place than assumed. not seeing any of this on osu's 247/rivals/etc. boards, but osu may be the current favorite.

august 6th is over a month away, though. that's like a decade in recruiting years, especially when the prime competitor is the recruit's local team. still expecting the vols to be the winner here, but...

my perspective is that even if keon went on the record today and said that he's going to commit to ohio state on 8/6, i would still assume that he'll commit to tennessee on 8/6. call me a pessimist. call me a realist. call me whatever. all that osu being the leader after an official (which may not even be the case) means to me is that osu is still in the game. for an out-of-state player of keon's ability, i'll take that.

Just got off the phone with Keon Johnson. Ohio State was his final visit, and he says he hasn't made up his mind. Of note: he was more impressed with Ohio State than he thought he would be, and he says distance won't be a factor.

A couple quotes...

"It was actually a lot better than what I thought. I had never seen the facilities or the city at all, so I was in awe whenever I stepped foot on campus."

"I felt very comfortable about coach Holtmann and his staff."

Tennessee is still widely regarded as the team to beat. But I wouldn't count out the Buckeyes. I'll stay on top of his recruitment over the next month. He'll make his decision on Aug. 6.

Story coming tomorrow morning.

seems to be in line with previous post. great visit. lots of time left. sounds like a ut-osu battle that goes down to the wire.

edit: if osu wins the battle, i think we win because of things unrelated to basketball. curious to find out what keon thought of what osu offers academically.

Johnson stayed busy on Saturday, meeting with multiple advisers and athletic director Gene Smith. He had a chance to learn more about the agriculture department, which houses his potential majors. Stemming from his passion for fishing, Johnson hopes to eventually raise fish for a living. He noted the academics as a positive takeaway from the visit.

If he wants to major in Agriculture, I like our chances
